MHT Viewer 1.0 from Qusnetsoft - a quick review

Purpose: read MHT files
Price: free

As all those that have read my previous articles and forum posts on mobile computing (see some of them at http://menneisyys.freeweb.hu ), or, even know my Mobipocket MWC Support Pack ( http://menneisyys.freeweb.hu/mwc ), know that I'm fond of PDA-based ebook/enews reading.

This is why I have jumped right on Qusnetsoft's MHT Viewer 1.0 ( http://www.qusnetsoft.ru/mhtviewer/Qusnetsoft_MHT_Viewer.PPC_ARM_2003.zip for the CAB file and http://www.qusnetsoft.ru/mhtviewer/Qusnetsoft_MHT_Viewer_2003.exe for the desktop EXE installer; there's no dedicated homepage for the app itself.)

I've quick tested it and found out that it doesn't create an icon of its own. It works the following way: once you click a .mht archive, its contents will be decompressed to the \Temp\QusnetsoftMHTViewer directory (after deleting the previous contents of the directory so that old pages don't remain there) and the main HTML file's file:/// URL will be passed to Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE). PIE, then, should be brought into the foreground. If it still doesn't appear, just invoke it by hand.

Please note that it only cleans up \Temp\QusnetsoftMHTViewer when it starts; when PIE exits, the unpacked MHT contents remain in there. Therefore, in some special cases (Mbyte-long MHT files), you may want to clean the given directory by hand.

Worked great with the test archives I've thrown it at. I can only recommend this stuff if you have a lot of MHT files to read - other PPC tools can't read them, not even µBook ( http://www.gowerpoint.com/uBook_main.html )
