These are the programs that I think are essential to have:
FREE mobsync (http://www.interq.or.jp/punk/doino/home/) to auto sync memory cards
FREE BatMemTime (http://www.geocities.com/tomgigear77/Software.html) has an estimated time left feature.
FREE Beta Player (http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/) So much better than Win Media Player
$20 SPB Pocket Plus (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/pocketplus/?en) makes the today screen much more usable.
$11 tweaks2k2.net (http://www.tweaks2k2.com/portal/staticpages/index.php?page=20050224182009983) Makes device more reliable & usable.
$25 Flexwallet 2005 (http://www.twopeaks.com/FlexWallet/pocketpc.aspx) Securely store any data eg: phone numbers, passwords, creditcard numbers etc
$11 MemMaid (http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14279) optimise the file store

The following are the programs that I use most often, but would not be essential for everyone:
$480 Navman Bluetooth GPS (http://www.navmanusa.com/product.asp?pn=AA005411) directions for driving
$15 per month audible (http://www.audible.com/) listen to audiobooks in the car etc
VARIABLE Mobipocket Reader (http://www.mobipocket.com/en/HomePage/default.asp) read normal books anywhere, even in the dark from Stephen King to the Bible. Reader is free, but books start at free & go up to about $30 most novels are about $8.
FREE Beta Player (http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/) So much better than Win Media Player

I have an O2 XDA II Mini so its pretty much the same as your Jam. I am a consultant so travelling is what I do throughout the week. Taking note of memory constraints in the Mini, I use the following apps;

Spb Pocket Plus - Tidies up your Today Screen and gives me ready launch apps categorized by Tabs; much more presentable and tidy than other Today Screen addons
PocketBreeze - Allows me to see my day-to-day appointments, tasks in a very compact but very legible manner on my Today Screen
Spb Weather - Allows me to check the weather going forward for the four cities I frequent
Agenda Fusion - My PIM of choice
AvantGo - I don't need to be connected to browse today's news
Pocket 15c - RPN Calculator of choice
I am still searching for an affordable time application which allows me to see what time is in which city. WorldMate Standard/Professional is way too expensive for this.

I am also searching for a good notes editor and then my PDA will be complete.[/list]

Try my freeware dictionary/thesaurus called WordNetCE. You can download it from: http://www.ebswift.com/PocketPC/WordNet/. Let me know what you think.
