They're indeed pretty good, but there're a lot of other mobile phone handler and/or connectivity apps there. For the former, check out http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36193; for the latter, in most cases, the already built-in Connectivity will work just great (see for example http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14205 on configuring it.)

I'd say third-party applications are very rarely (if ever) needed for setting up mobile connections.
