<a href="http://www.pocketbiblestudy.com/default.aspx">http://www.pocketbiblestudy.com/default.aspx</a><br /><br />I have been longing for a database for my Pocket PC that would handle notes, topics and verses on the Bible and posed a question to my fellow Mobile Device MVP's if they had a suggestion. I have been a <a href="http://www.handbase.com">HanDBase</a> fan for years, but I never could get it to do exactly what I wanted in this particular case. Within a few hours of my posting the question, Darryl Burling chimed in that he had been working on just such a project and sent me a link to a very early beta. I immediately installed it and have helped him work out a few kinks over the last few months and yesterday, version 1.0 was released.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2005/20050502-topicalbible.jpg" /><br /><br />It allows you to put in a major topic and several layers of subtopics. Below each of those you can put more subtopics, verses and notes. Each verse can support a note on its own too. All notes are shown in the lower third of the screen. What is really cool is there is a small level of integration with <a href="http://www.laridian.com/ce/catpocketbible.asp?ref=apwzwtzws">Laridian's PocketBible</a>. Topical Bible can export any tree or entire file to HTML and it honors PocketBible's HTML tag requirements. This means your notes are now a custom book in Pocket Bible and all verse links are hotlinks to those verses! You only need to save the exported HTML file to the \Laridian Books folder on your device.<br /><br />The software is free and occupies a under 300K on your device. It installs to a storage card or ROM file store with no problem. It does require the .NET compact framework, which is on most if not all 2003 and 2003 SE devices. If you have a Pocket PC 2002, you'll need to download and install <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=359ea6da-fc5d-41cc-ac04-7bb50a134556&displaylang=en">NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP2</a>. Be sure to check out other features of Darryl's new site, PocketBibleStudy.com while you are there downloading Topical Bible.

Thanks Ed for posting this. I am obviously a big fan of HanDBase myself ;) and I use it for doing this exact thing. In fact, I've been planning on some day uploading my databases for this purpose to our Gallery section of the HanDBase site. It's been a labor of love for me, and it's hard to ever consider it done, but I do have a great set of databases to organize all your bible notes from different sources, bible study, quiet time, and sermon notes. I'll let you know when it's posted and ready so you can give it a try.

It sounds like there are some definite advantages to this new program though- I'm going to check it out.

Very nice...thanks for the tip!

I'd love to see support for Greek and Hebrew characters.

Awesome. Thanks. I've been keeping my notes in E-sword on my desktop computer, but I normally have my Pocket PC with me. I'd been looking for a way to keep my notes all in one place.

Topical Bible (http://www.pocketbiblestudy.com/Default.aspx?tabid=136) really made my day! Thanks, Ed, for the tip!
Of course, the quality of the program falls in line with the program author's other excellent product, BOnTime (http://www.bsystems.co.nz/Default.aspx?tabid=94).
Topical Bible is the easiest way I know how to create Laridian compatible reference/study material.

ddhsoftware,
Would you consider expanding the HandDBase note field beyond 2000 characters? It would really help with a sermon illustration database :D There are quite a few illustrations and stories that exceed 2000 characters. I enjoy your program very much!

I have the Net SP2 software installed on my Toshiba e740 but when I try to install Topical Bible it says that the device (CE2002) is not compatible and will be available at a later time.

Also, there is no link to register at the Pocket Bible Software.com website so I cannot get a support request entered!
