The end result is that Warcraft II is now running on VGA and QVGA devices. While it'll start happily on a QVGA Pocket PC, you need to do the following to get it up and running in VGA mode..."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/warcraft2-ppc.jpg" /><br /><br />The details are a little fuzzy due to language barrier issues, but this is quite exciting! I have fond memories of spending many, MANY hours playing Warcraft 2, and it would be amazing to get this on my Pocket PC. Can someone with German language skills explain what we need to do and post the instructions in this thread? As a side note, I've been emptying out my office for a big eBay/garage sale, and among the only old games I kept were Blizzard games such as Warcraft, Warcraft 2, Diablo, etc. So I'm ready to rock - someone just show me how. :rock on dude!:

According to pocketgaming.de, you just have to download this file (http://soneric.kiev.ua/wargus.rar), copy it to your memory card and extract it. You'll also need 19 MB of free RAM.

and to solve the VGA error you need Pocket CMD (http://www.hpc.ru/soft/download.phtml?id=8396) and Pocket Console (http://www.hpc.ru/soft/software.phtml?id=8395)
then select the Folder wit DOS commands and run file with the following parameter:

stratagus640 -F

Wargus itself is a bit buggy, the PC version that is. They're not quite 100% feature complete too. However, this is still great for the project, and for PocketPCs.

Starcraft is also possible via Stratagus, too.

Yeah!! I got it to work on my 2215. All i did was download the file that Eastwood posted, and the one that is on the site and i converted it to a zip file for faster transfer. I then transfered it to my PPC, extracted it and clicked on the Stragus icon and it worked. I would not suggest playing this unless you have a good VGA pocket pc, and i do not know the fix for it. The view is horrible, very small on QVGA, no sound, and very hard to use a game that uses a mouse with a stylus.

How very cool, I'm still waiting for an offical WarCraft II version to come out. I liked how AOE turned out and hope that Blizzard would do the same.

Also running fine on my Toshiba e755 - pity about the lack of sound.

Now all I need is the Axim x50v I just ordered to arrive....

Ho-lee crap. I was just telling my girlfriend yesterday that she needs to play the original Warcrafts (we're both addicted to World of Warcraft right now), and now there's a PDA version? Sweet, I can lend her my PDA so she can play at work on her break.

Assuming I can get it to work

Well I do not know if this will be any help given that the X50v is vga while my e755 is QVGA, but all I did was extract the RAR file into a folder on my CF card and then tap on the file called "stratagus.exe" and I was away. I presume the file "stratagus640.exe" is the one you are after. I hope that works because my x50v should be here by the end of the week...

So far the game seems to play okay (again this is on my e755) without any crashes. If only I could remember the commands etc. The two flaws I have found so far is the lack of sound (really miss that) and that there is no keyboard pop up when, for example you try to name a save game. Maybe I am just missing something there...

You could try eBay, but they seem semi-rare.

How do you save? I cannot get a sip panel to come up and allow me to input a save name.

How do you save? I cannot get a sip panel to come up and allow me to input a save name.

If you tap in the lower left corner, you see the SIP panel flickering and if you tap the place where the keyboard should be, it will recognize the tap and insert the letter/number you tapped. It doesn't matter which it is since you can save a game with just 1 char :) Works for me.

You'll need to download this for your PPC:

http://n0p.averest-k.ru/?Stratagus_%26amp%3B_Wargus

And this for your desktop PC, which helps to convert the data:

http://wargus.sourceforge.net/

And you'll also need a full copy of the Warcraft II CD. I assume you have one of those if you're interested in playing the game--if you don't, you can probably find one pretty cheap on eBay. The instructions for the PPC version should walk you through the rest.
