Hi,

I have an IPAQ 1940. I have downloaded some wmv's to my PC that require a license to play. I get the log in to acquire the license. When i transfer them to my PDA and try to play them on there it wont let me as the license has not been transferred across from my PC.

Can anyone tell me how i can transfer the license to my IPAQ so that i can play them on it?

Regards
Macca

Are you transferring using Windows Media Player, or are you dragging and dropping using File Explorer/ActiveSync? Licenses will only transfer when you transfer using WMP...

I'm transferring using explorer/ActiveSync.

You'll need to add the item to WMP's library then use the SYNC tab to transfer it over - the left column is what you're tranferring, the right is where you're transferring it to.

I copied it over using WMP. There was an option to copy to device. I selected to copy my WMV file to my SD card. It copied fine and also copies a license over(i think!!) called DRMv1PM. howere while this file was in the root directory of my SD card the file is in a folder called My Documents.

When i try to play the file i get the error message :-

Windows Media Player cannot play protected video files.

Do you know why?

I'm not sure why to be honest - DRM is so screwed up on the desktop PC I honestly don't even mess with it on the Pocket PC... :? Sorry, wish I could help.

It seems that nowadays if you have WMP10 on your desktop and anything but WMP10 on the device you are transferring to the results will be flaky at best. To rub salt into that wound you can't download a version of WMP10 to your 1940 Ipaq.

...It seems the best way around this is to steal your music and use a 3rd party player.....just kidding...sort of. ;) I think my statement is a bit of a testament as to how frustating DRM is becoming for those of us trying to do things legally.

When I was using my PDA2k which is sans WMP10 I got so frustrated I simply gave up trying. The results trying to transfer music to it and get consistent results was impossible. Now that I have a JAM with WMP10 things are much better.

That's right, you can't download WMP10 Mobile for your iPAQ. However, blame HP - it's up to the OEM to release software upgrades...

You got that right guys. It feels like they're forcing me to upgrade every 12 to 24 months!

Previous and current upgrade motives:
Can't see display in sunlight (E100)
Only 32MB total system memory (H3615?)
Want memory card slot (H3615)
Processor not strong enough (H3835)
OEM OS uprade was buggy (H3835)
Want built-in Wifi (H2215)
Can't play latest DRM files (H2215)
