I've trouble accessing anything on my SD card because I've a chinese character as part of the name. However, I don't want to change the name of my SD card due to various factors. I have tried the ActiveSync in Chinese, but it doesn't work either.(After all, my computer is in English) Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

You're in a tight spot here. That Chinese character is most likely not being recognised since everything is being defaulted in English. So it's just reading it as an invalid character. The easiest approach is to just rename it to something that can be recognised.

As mentioned before, I can't change the name of my SD card because I've already installed a lot of programs on my card. To change the name of my SD card means a shortcut mess. Besides programs, I will also a lot of other problems. (I've tried to change the name of my SD card more than once already.)

Usually the best thing to do is to not give it a name at all. That's what I do for the majority (if not all) of my cards.

If you're worried about having to install all your programs again, I really don't think you have any other option. If you wanted to install a Chinese ROM on there, you'd still need to wipe the slate clean anyway.

How are your shortcuts named? I switch SD cards quite often (and each is named differently), but they all show up as "Storage Card" on my iPAQ. I'm either doing something wrong, or maybe iPAQ's do things differently. Just curious.

Thanks for the suggestions, Darius. Though, I think I will just keep it the way it is even though it is a little inconvenient.

Activesync is the problem here. It doesn't seem to support Unicode properly so trying to transfer anything that has non-latin characters in it will not work. Only 2 solutions that I can think of:

1. Change the default code-page of Windows (I'm assuming you're using XP).
Go to Control Panel -> Date, Time, Language and Regional Options -> Regional and Language Options. Click the Advanced tab. There's a drop-down box, select Chinese (PRC) or Chinese (Taiwan) depending on whether you need Simplified or Traditional Chinese support. Click Ok. You'd probably need to restart.

2. Get an SD card reader and access it straight from your desktop. Of course this won't help if you're trying to install something to your SD card.

In the future, take Darius' advice - don't name the card unless you really have to. And try not to use any non-latin character in pathname or filename.

Thanks you very, very much. Your solution worked perfectly! It also solved some problem with other Chinese softwares besides ActiveSync. Finally, my problem is solved. Also, I will be more careful about naming the storage card. Thanks again!

Just out of interest, I was under the initial impression that the problem was to do with accessing the card's contents from your Pocket PC. Because now it seems that all along, the problem was to do with reading it from the PC, and not on the Pocket PC. Are you actually having a problem reading the card on your Pocket PC?

No, I don't have any problem reading the SD card with my Pocket PC since it's in Traditional Chinese itself. That's why it name the SD card with a chinese character as part of the name in the first place. Though, my computer is in English.

:morning:

Ah, I thought your Pocket PC had an English ROM installed. Never mind... Time for me to go grab some coffee. ;)
