New Palm OS?

Does anyone know when the new Palm OS is coming out? Will it be based on Linux, have handwriting recognition like Win CE, and have multitasking?

From my recollection from lurking at www.palminfocenter.com

The new palm OS is out already, called cobalt. It has some form of multi-tasking, but its still limited, ie. the program state is not completely unaltered when it goes into the background. Its not based on Linux, although there is an effort in progress at the moment to port it to Linux to use on smart phones in China. So far no one has released any hardware with Cobalt on it, but you can download the emulator and see what it looks like on your desktop. It does not look like cobalt will be available in hardware until around the end of the year, if then.

Proper HWR like transcriber or calligrapher is only licensed to pocketpc's. There are various other solutions like jot which are similar.
