Having just done a google for "Microsoft Magneto" to see what was out there, I spotted this:

I quite like reading Guy Kewney's articles - don't always agree with him, but I like his writing style and this makes interesting reading :-).

Believable.
What does Microsoft do more then anyone? Develop software?! No......Hire lawyers...YES!
If this is true, then Windows Mobile is dead, because it will take sooooo long for the lawyers to sign off on it that everyone will have moved on.

Magneto has an update engine as part of the package. They could just pull the relevant part on release, and make available an e-mail update in a few months.
I find increased prices and OEM resistance more believable.

I don't see why everyone thinks that the release has been delayed. I haven't seen anything to indicate a planned release earlier than May/June, and I see even less reason for MS to announce at 3GSM.

Two reasons that spring to mind:
1. From what I've read elsewhere, there are strong impressions that Magneto heralds the merging of the Pocket PC platform with the SmartPhone platform. As such, the announcement fits in with a mobile phone convention.
2. I believe that the MDA IV (which is known to run Magneto) is a 3G device.

An interesting read - perhaps while MS wait for certain law suits to be resolved, they could licence Pocket Slides from Conduits and give us a more featured Powerpoint client in their next OS release? ;)
