There are a few doozies in the list of fixes and additions, including:

• Ability to leave Skype Voicemail
• SkypeIn Support
• Centralized Contact list
• VGA support
• Improved security
• Ability to call France
• Ability to use program on Chinese devices
• Addition of French and German languages

Anyone installed the update yet? What's the verdict?

For me, it's a solid update, and I'm liking what I see so far. I haven't come across any issues, so those who use Skype may want to give this a go, double-quick. :P

Thanks for the update.

But man lately it seems all I've been doing is just upgrading one PPC software version or another as posted by PPCThoughts (uninstall/reinstall, perhaps re-register for paid apps, etc), without enough time in between to actually USE some of the software in question... Not that I'm complaining ;)

Skype-In works perfectly, for those who are wondering...

Has anyone had problems in using it with a PDA2k?

While in most cases the previous version used to work almost completely well in my device, this new version has already caused me 2 hard-resets during its operation.

Here is the scenario: you go into the system, talk a little, go out and in again. Then the device gets stuck and the only way to restart it is to remove the battery and re-insert it (no way to turn it on/off, no soft reset, nothing). At the moment you do so, it hard resets.

Surely, in regular situations (without using skype) I can remove the battery whenever I want and the backup battery takes over. No hard-resets.

Any ideas?

I've possibly discovered something interesting about this update - but I haven't tested my theory fully yet...

Previously when using Skype on my iPAQ 2210, I get feedback between the 2210's speaker and the microphone. So, to stop this, I use a set of headphones plugged into the iPAQ, and speak into the iPAQ's microphone as normal. This stops the feedback problem.

However, today after downloading the new update, I just wanted to test to see if it was working or not. So, I called someone quickly - with no headphones plugged in. They answered, and I expected to get the feedback problem. But there was no feedback !!! I was able to hold a full conversation - talking into the 2210's mic whilst listening on the 2210's speaker. No feedback and no headphones needed.

So, was it because I had the iPAQ's speaker set at quite a low level (low enough to stop the feedback), or is it because Skype have now put an unannounced duplex thingy into their updated software to stop the feedback problem ???

hi all
I know this is a little off-topic, but has anyone ever tried it with a Modem connection rather than Wifi? I was thinking while I was away that if I didn't have high-speed access I could use modem.

Also, my buddy has an Axim x30 @312 MHz, with Wifi on board. Will the 312 be enough to use this app? what about overclocking utils I've seen? would that help?

thanx for the info

Doesn't work on my E830 set to VGA using SE_VGA.

It launches, showing a "Click here to connect" window that stretches to the full widlt of the screen, but is about 1/3rd its height. Machine freezes completely and I have to reboot.

I tried it with TMobile GPRS (APN:internet2.voicestream.com, 100% signal strength) and I couldn't even get choppy conversations... all I got were bursts of noise for about 30 seconds and the calls droped... every time. SkypeOut service works perfectly with WiFi though.

SkypeIn service is very impractical... depending on what PPC model you have... In my case, my O2 XDA IIs turns off WiFi every time it is powered off so there goes SkypeIn... O2 XDA IIs won't disconnect GPRS when it is powered off but the quality is sooooooo unacceptable for me to even want to do a test to see if it notifies me at all when I receive a call

(btw, if you have AIM, you can turn on GPRS and power off your O2 XDA IIs and if you receive an IM, O2 XDA IIs will notify you... apparently, AIM is still running in the background and the speaker & GPRS is not turned off when the unit is powered off... pretty cool... for those who didn't stumble upon it yet... :D )

The reason I still keep Skype is because I have WiFi at work and my phone at work won't allow long distance calls. If you have TMobile (I suspect Cingular or other GPRS service also applies) don't bother thinking using it as a replacement for your phone because the GPRS wireless connection speed and the Skype compression capability just isn't there.
