I'm thinking of moving from Palm to Pocket PC but the unit I'm thinking of is the HP6350 with built in sim free phone. On reading, this falls under the catagory of Pocket Mobile 2003, and then there is SE, 2004, Pocket PC and so on. At least with the palm I knew all programmes would work to a degree. I tried to search a landscape view programme and could only find one for Pocket PC SE, will this work on my unit and if not the programming seems to me to be a bit thin on the ground. In short are there 1000's of programmes out there that will work with this unit or is it Windows oversell. I realy couldn't find a programme that would convince me I can download and view net pages in landscape mode. Please, please convince me to go for the HP and leave Palm. Help would be very much appreciated.

I believe you are correct in that the ipaq 6350 runs windows mobile 2003 phone edition. Landscape is not natively supported in this version. I think you have a few options for landscape. First, you could look into the Thunderhawk Browser (google it). this is a sweet third party browser that supports landscape browsing, it also formats the text nicely. The other option I am thinking is to install Nydiot, I am not sure on the compatibility though. PIE plus will add some cool features to PIE (pocket internet explorer) like fullscreen view and better page formating for smaller screens. Hope this starts you out on the right path.

If you are in the UK, why get the HP6315, which is old tech, when you can get the various xda's or vpa etc's?

It has everything the hp unit has, looks more attractive, is faster and has the latest OS, with native on the fly landscape mode.
Forget the hp6315.

Thats good advice Surur, checking up I see it's Wi-Fi as well which is what I need. Do you know the cheapest place for a sim free and unlocked model, oh and by the way the Ipac model I was looking at is the 6340 not 50.

This looks relatively cheap at £512 unlocked.

The device is however carried by most carriers, and I believe there is software over at xda-developers.com which will allow you to unlock it for free. And yes, you can use it like any other pocketpc with wifi to browse the internet at home and at work without GPRS costs. You could even install Skype on it and make free phone calls in a wifi area.
