So, this is what the "new" Pocket PC Thoughts is going to be like? Puff pieces about Microsoft VPs and employees?
Now that we know this site won't post any rumors or other details (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,38639) about any Microsoft products, I guess we should get used to links like these. Man, what happened to Pocket PC Thoughts?

Man, how many other so-called puff-pieces have you seen so far? As far as I can tell, PPCT is still delivering the news and all that other great stuff, and thats the reason why I continue to read PPCT everyday. I can't believe you're taking one thread about NDAs and turning it into a platform for attacking this site.

in my opinion, that post is uncalled for. there are dozens of other forums to read if you don't like this one.

I think it is perfectly called for. I used to like this site a lot. This isn't the first time this has happened. A while ago, there was a similar sitation with HP NDAs. How can this site bill itself as "daily news, views, rants, & raves" now?
I really feel this site is going downhill. I can't remember the last time a decent review or article was published. Everything here is a puff piece.

Ooh! Ooh!, Can I play with the troll? Can I huh? Please... It's been awhile. I'm out of practice. And I thinks he's ripe what with not understanding what NDA's are all about. I mean Jason's post spelled it out pretty clearly yet the phlange doesn't get it.
Oh well, nevermind, It would have been to easy anyway.
Anybody know of any PPC sites where active flamewars are happening? It's like the whole community mellowed out or something. :(

Look, I'm not trying to be a troll. I understand what NDAs are for and how they can help. But for a Pocket PC "news" site, I think that these MVP NDAs are harmful.
Microsoft gives you MVPs lots of perks. But what does it give the community? Very little. You get to go to secret Microsoft meetings and are given plenty of free stuff. Those of us who used to enjoy this site get to see stale headlines and Microsoft party-line propoganda. All for what? So that you can be among the Microsoft elite?
Yes, I'm bitter and whining a lot here. I appreciate that Jason let us know about that NDA. That is honestly very classy. I just don't like what it means.
I'm not advocating becoming a trashy rumor site. I just think it is a shame that this site can't divulge rumors on devices and OSes that we all are looking forward to. It just feels wrong to me.
Don't try to give me the line "but there are so many benefits that we the high and mighty MVPs bestow on you". That is just not true. You have sold out to Microsoft. Hope you enjoy your free swag and lame title.

I knew it would be too easy.
Front Page Posts/Rumors about new devices are many and will continue at Pocket PC Thoughts. Divulging Trade Secrets though, I'm sure Jason will leave that to the warez sites.
Anyway I don't really think you're a troll. That was just to get your attention.

But where are the OS rumours? Thats nearly more interesting to us than devices.

They're in the forums of course! Didn't anybody actually read the front page editorial? I blame it all on the RSS craze, Short attention Span Theater time. :devilboy:

I think you're a bit confused - we posted that we were NOT signing the HP NDA because it was too restrictive, HP dropped me from their program, and now I no longer have access to any HP hardware to review unless I go out and buy it. As such, we can and do post on any HP device rumours that come our way. So what's your point again?
I won't respond to the rest of your trash-talking - our review team works hard and I won't stand for you insulting their work.

I posted this to the original thread:
"There is a difference between rumors, screenshots and what is being posted on the site that everyone is talking about. Not only does it violate copyrights, it is down right stealing. I think that Jason has done a good job informing everyone that there is a news item out there that they could easily use google news (search magneto) to find without posting it. I don’t think he would post it even if he had an NDA, as I said it is down right stealing.
The thread is long and contains only a few screen shots. It is mostly about people trying to illegally hack a ROM that is not released yet so that they can run it on their PPC, which will probably damage the device anyway.
As I said, I think PPCT did a good job letting us know there was news to be read, without upsetting Microsoft. They also were very upfront with us about agreements that they have in place and I for one, find myself informed."
Before you criticize you should know what the news item is that everyone is referring to. If you don’t feel a little dirty after reading it…then you probably wouldn’t be happy with much that PPCT does.

I think it's silly that Microsoft is getting more restrictive in it's non-disclosure policy but I don't see how that reflects on the people it applies to. How does Microsoft restricting someone make the person(s) who is restricted any less ethical or unbiased? Especially when the restricted parties are up front about what is going on? I've been lurking around for years and have no reason to believe anyone on the PPC staff is a lacky to Microsoft. Jason has criticized Microsoft's lack of implimentation/failures in impliementation many times over the years. Why would a Microsoft flunky do that?

Personally, I'll stick with the troll designation in this case. Since the one bashing Jason's statement created the Phlange account today, I can assume that either:
The basher didn't want to have the comments associated to his/herself in other contexts, so a new account was created.
..or...
After all this time (re: "what happened to PPCT? comment") the only post worth making was one such as this.

Just out of curiosity, what is the 21st century equivalent? I'm so out of date on most things that I'd at least like to keep up with the lingo you cats are using these days.

Heck if I know? "Flamer" maybe but this thread wasn't really a flame I think. There has got to be something new five years into the new century though.

Seconded! Anyone else remember when Buger King had their "Herb" promotion back in the 80s? I thought that was soooo cool. I was also a big "Weird Al" fan back then. Wait a minute... I still am... OK, so this thread is getting even further off topic. Probably a good thing.

I'm certainly not going to ask anyone to stay on topic here, and I doubt the mods will either. For the record, I'm not dragging this farther off-topic (why would I want to see a perfectly valid post like this be derailed...), I'm just contributing like my title says... :devilboy:

Yeah, but jazz is still cool. (Or is there another word for cool now? Phat? The shizzle?) I'm actually not that old (although I feel that way after soccer games, etc.) I was just trying to lighten the mood of the thread.

Phlange doesn't want to play anymore because he couldn't get any support from anyone else. Whiners tend to want to take their ball and go home when no one wants to play thier game anymore.
Jason and the rest of the MVP's and Non MVP's one this site work hard to make it what it is. The size of the current member list is plus the sheer number of paid members are a testiment to how great PPCT is.
