I just got a DELL Inspirion 700m laptop. Does anyone know how the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 shared VRAM works? Does it allocate all 64 MB first? Or does it take only as much RAM as needed? For example, if a game needed 32 MB only, instead of 64 MB, then the Intel Graphics Extreme GPU takes 32MB only?

Because I can't figure out exactly how much RAM the GPU takes up, and I can't figure out how to change its settings (if it has any) to change allocated shared VRAM. I know that it has a min. setting of 16 MB and a max. of 64 MB.

Did you try looking in the BIOS? That's usually where you set the video RAM.

Oh yea, actually I have checked there too...and it's not there. Which was a surprise to me.

Hmm. On one of my laptops I have an Intel GPU and there's a control panel icon that starts up an interface where I can change the settings...perhaps there?

Oh yea...checked there too. But I still can not find a settings for it. It does report how much VRAM is in use though.
