I've pretty much made up my mind to sell my T3 and all of the accessories I've bought for it. In favour of a X50v and a bluetooth keyboard.

I've done alot of research and reading on the PPC/X50v platform and I feel that i have a pretty good grip on it, but there is on thing that worries me.

I've been using palms and palm desktop for 4 years now so it's like a part of my spine. In all the reviews I've gone thru I havent seen a single :!: screenshot of how the PPC Outlook sync and PIM management looks 8O

I would be very glad if someone could post a few screenshots of how the calendar, PIM, E-mail stuff looks! (on the desktop not the PPC)

Edit: I know this is a basic question but does PPC's allow you to instantly turn them on/off at any point like palms or do you have to boot up / shutdown first?

Pocketpc's use Microsoft Outlook at the "Palm desktop". It comes bundled with the pocketpc (outlook 2002 usually) but it will work with the latest one you have installed on your desktop. There is a good chance you have it installed already.

Here is some links.

In addition you can have a "synchronised folder" where your "my documents" folder on the pocketpc gets synchronised to your desktop.

Pocketpc's switch on and off just like palms. No difference at all.

Thank you for a quick answer, I just put out my T3 on sale. As soon as I get it sold I'll order an X50v right away =)

I assume (from your previous posts) that you chose the Dell due to the video accelerator. If thats not the case you may want to consider the Loox 720, for about the same price, but (besides for video) much more nifty and apparently currently more available in Europe.

I've had my eyes on the loox 720 for some time, although I dont know if you've ever heard of it but I've developed an open source tool for converting videos to PDA's called UMC ( http://unlogic.no-ip.biz/umc/ ).

When i read about the X50v and saw the benchmarks of it playing high bitrate videos in betaplayer it didnt take many seconds before the thought "Bye Bye Palm!" came to mind :D ...feels like Palm has been living in a cave for quite sometime now...

The Dell certainly is the one to get then. It can apparently show high bitrate video even when underclocked to 208Mhz. It also has the nifty feature of VGA out (via a separate cable) which means you can use it to watch something on a much larger screen, still at high frame rates. Interestingly it means also that you can watch video without down-converting it for your PDA, at desktop bitrates.

In any case, enjoy your purchase, and welcome to the pocketpc fold.

I have both a T3 and an X50v--the latter for not-quite two weeks. Very nice device--you won't be disappointed. You may want to track my articles on MobileTechReview (http://www.mobiletechreview.com) in the coming weeks. I'm going to chronicle the differences between the platforms and the solutions I discover in the process.
