We’re not sure what the heck this is, or whether this is even for real or not, but these photos of what supposedly is the “Treo 670” have turned up on TreoCentral. Except that it’s reportedly running on Windows Mobile, not the Palm OS. Anyway, whatever this is, it’s built by HTC; they make tons of Windows Mobile-based Smartphones and Pocket PCs, but they’re also the company contracted to manufacture the Treo 650 for palmOne, so this could either be a knock-off they’re making for someone else or the long-rumored Windows Mobile-powered Treo we’ve been hearing about. Either way we know one thing: we’re now completely obsessed with figuring this out, especially in the wake of disappointment the Treo 650 left."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/windowsmobiletreo.jpg" /><br /><br />More rumours about the possibility of a Windows Mobile Treo. I think it's going to happen, and I think it will sell quite well...

Is that a HOME button I see on the unit on the left? Hmmmm, perhaps it is true....

Sooner or later Treo powered by Windows Mobile will be released - palmOne must do it due to external reasons...

However the crucial question will be: what resolution will palmOne use in Windows Mobile Treo ? If it will be 240x240 like in iPAQ Mobile Messenger, then noway this phone has chances to be popular, but if they would use 480x480 or 480x640 (both supported by Windows Mobile) then in 1 year it would outsell Treo 650 powered by PalmOS.

I have seen with my eyes the first Pocket PC phone with VGA display (i.e. MDA IV) in action and I must tell you: it is stunning.

Being me, I was disappointed by the quality of the above pic, so I cranked up the brightness and contrast. Upon doing so, I noticed that the unit on the right had a pattern on the screen that wasn't consistent with a blank screen. Meaning that it looked like it was turned on, but on the lowest backlight setting. Cranking up the contrast even more, it looks to me like we've got the familiar windows mobile top and bottom bars, and maybe a Start menu:

I think so. I did the same and it looks more like a Palm desktop to me, which is ok because that isn't the same device. Looks like the current Treo next to the newer one for comparison.

I like the design of these models above...
It would be really nice if palmOne pushed these out the Windows mobile platform. If they did.. palmOne would cash in big time because they will sell like crazy.

We have all been hearing about this for a long time now....... I just hope that something like this actually occurs. I love my Sprint 6601 but the TREO form factor is GREAT!

Treo form factor + WM2005 = my next phone, assuming that PalmOne doesn't screw it up with mangled Bluetooth support, missing WiFi or ridiculous memory limitations. After having held a Treo 600 in my hand, I've been lusting after a device like that with the WM software in it - several vendors are coming close, but not quite hitting all my buttons. I just hope that if this turns out to be true, that they manage not to mess it up like the 650.....

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the Treo form factor. IMO, there are plenty of other devices out there that look a little more pleasing to the eye (the Asus P505 is one such device). But that's just my opinion - I'm sure there are plenty of you who would suggest otherwise.

i dont like the treo design eighter.
i find the sliding keyboards the best, like found in blue angel, or keypad like the one found in p910i. also the design of nokia communicator 9300 is good too, i wish communicator had touch screen

Whole point of why the Treo form factor is so appealing is because of it's one-handed operation. You don't have to flip, twist or slide anything open. You can operate the thing totally one handed either via 5-way nav or thumbboard...that's why its soo easy and intuitive to use as a phone and pda...

But years from now, your wrists/hands/fingers will not be thanking you.

I really like the feel of the treo 600...haven't played with a 650...had to get one for one of my techs just to be impartial...we're 99.9% WM...I would like to see a WM version in the Treo form factor, but would need to have some better resolution...tired of missing just one thing...my x50v is beautiful, but has no phone...the ppc-4100 is a decent phone, but no WF/BT...the PDA2k is sweet, but no vga...sigh....the 6315 is too damn slow and has less Ram than my calculator...maybe the mda IV will do it for me....just in case they are listening: :)
VGA screen
256 Megs of Ram
WiFi
GSM / EDGE
BT
some sort of concealable, yet usable keyboard
600 MHz or better
USB Host
2.0 + MP camera with 640X480 30FPS video capture
2000 Ma battery

:)

Hmmm I'm sure I'm missing something...oh yeah, XP Pro, please. :)

build it and they will come. :)
