Nero ShowTime Mobile will bring the full Nero Digital™ media experience to a wide range of existing and upcoming personal devices. With a unique design, Nero ShowTime Mobile will provide a single, intuitive look on all the supported platforms regardless of the Operating System. Users will no longer need to search for and adapt to a new player or re-encode their multimedia collections every time they upgrade their cellular phone or PDA."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20050312-ShowTimeMobile.jpg" /><br /><br />Nero's newly-announced ShowTime Mobile supports the playback of MP4, M4A, MP3, AAC and WAV - but amongst all that, one of its key features is full support for UPnP. ShowTime Mobile is able to automatically discover UPnP devices on a network, thus allowing for an easy-to-manage remote playback solution. It's designed to integrate with Nero MediaHome. Other features such as equalizers, playlists and battery-optimised playback are all neatly packed into this application. So how do you acquire it? ShowTime Mobile is still in beta (according to the website), but if you're interested, it can still be downloaded free of charge for people who register a full version of Nero 6 or higher (retail or downloaded version). More details can be found at the <a href="http://www.ahead.de/en/Nero_ShowTime_Mobile.html">ShowTime Mobile webpage</a>. I like how they picture a Handspring Visor device on their page using the software even though there is no way it could handle it (beside the fact that Palm OS 3.x isn't support).

what the heck is nero doing making pocket pc music players? ^^

Well theres no ogg support so that pretty much nixes it off my try list.

That and they have the worlds worst technical support and upgrade policies.

When I bought Nero 5.5 they double billed me and refused to refund, even though I never even got a registration code. I had to contact my bank and have them revoke payment. Last I'll ever deal with them...

Kind of cool, but no WMA or WMV support? Useless for my needs.

Same here! In today's media world how can you not support WMA.

Good point. I recall that over the past few years, Nero was never really at the forefront in WMA/WMV support. Seems like there's still some catching up to do. :|

Well.... I guess they have in mind users like me who like to use anything but WMA/WMV. :D But I agree: this *is* limiting the software.

on the other hand: from mpg/DVD to Nero-Digital is a 1-step (and very fast) process to watching a film on your ppc. While I'm writing this I'm just encoding a TV-film from tonight. I'll tell you how the result looks like.

Look forward to hearing from you. Ahead claim that ShowTime Mobile supports gapless playback (which only a mere handful support), so it'd be great to get your first impressions on the player.

I am sorry, but I was not able to play the movie on my ipaq h4700. And I was not even able to play mp3-songs. There is obviously still some work to do for Nero.
(First I thought that it wouldn't play because I'd installed it in "iPAQ FileStore" but I got the same non-results in main memory as well.)

Cheers for the update Spenser. In the words of Jonathan1, Nero needs to "Get Back to Work!!" (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=332472#332472).

"...

...

That's a plain lie, as their page states:

Supported video formats:
Nero Digital™ (MPEG-4 Video, including AVC/H.264)

There's only ONE video format supported

I think much of the mentality that went into that quoted statement was the fact that ShowTime Mobile is designed to integrate heavily with the Nero package, and nothing else. Obviously, things aren't that simple when you look outside that circle, but it seems the developers may not have considered this thus far. Hopefully, the negative features are just limitations of the beta.

I haven't tested the software, but if they support all MPEG-4 variants (those with other FOURCC than Nero's, which includes Xvid, DivX, 3ivx) that's quite a range. Other formats require extra licensing: Real, QT, VC1 (~WMV), ...

H.264 is the codec that will be supported by HD-DVD- and BluRay-discs (together with MS' VC1) and is part of the next-gen satellite standard DVB-S2.

That was the first thing I noticed, then I came here to post and found your reply. Well spotted:

I wonder if palmOne will relaunch the Handspring Visor Prism with Windows Mobile

I produced a 100mb nero digital file from a dvd i own and copied it onto the storage card of my ppc and it was rubbish. On the PC it was excellent but on the PPC I was getting about 1 frame a second.

It is an Orange SPVM2000 which is one of the "Blue Angel" range so it has an Intel XScale PXA263 400 MHz processor which should be good enough.

I dont know if there is anything i could have changed in the encode - i left it all on defaults i think.

But as it stands its not worth the effort - unless anyone else knows different :)

Surely it does not matter if it supports OGG, WMA etc. As your Nero Media Server just recodes on the fly to a format which is supported. ie it will recode to Nero Digital™.

Poor FPS with Nero Digital™ is another issue though.
