We've eagerly been awaiting the release of the new 2 GB SD cards since November 2004. With a 2 GB SD card our PDAudio high-resolution digital audio recorder can record more than 3 hours of 16/44.1 (CD quality), two hours of 24/44.1 or one hour of 24/96 (DVD quality).

ATP (http://flash.atpinc.com/) has begun shipping their 2 GB SD cards. You can find a review here: http://www.auphanonline.com/articles/view.php?article_id=1498 .

Prices from their on-line dealers vary from roughly $239 to $358. No doubt this will stabilize over time.

SanDisk dealers are now quoting mid-April ship dates for their 2 GB SD cards (originally announced to ship in November 2004).

We expect to have one here on Friday. We'll post benchmarks to our Web site the same day.

I'm jealous.

Don't be - they told me I had to send it back.

Ah. I shouldn't be rushing ATP's PR contacts, then. Good.

Be nice to throw 2-4 movies on or 10 or so episodes of TV for longer trips

We received our ATP 2 GB SD card, popped it into a Dell Axim X50v and ran SPB Benchmark.

The combination has the fastest write rates we've seen in a PDA to date, for any flash memory card format: over 2 MB/second.

You can see the results of this and previous benchmarks here:

http://www.core-sound.com/CF-and-SD-mass-storage-comparison.html

We're looking forward to testing a SanDisk 2 GB in a few weeks.

You guys don't happen to have an X30 you can pop it into, do you?

Um, because while an X50 can use inexpensive, high capacity CF cards, X30 owners only have the choice of SD or nothing. There's been some question about whether X30s will be able to utilize the new 2GB cards, and thus far no one with an X30 has gotten ahold of one to find out.

Fair enough. I just didn't know why you were specifically targetting an X30, and not say, an h4150 or the like. :)

Because I've got one, that's why ;)

And LenM was reporting that they had an X50, so it seemed logical to ask.

Thus far, no one on Aximsite has reported receiving one, so many are waiting for an answer with baited breath.

I don't know if I could fill a 2 GB card. I have a 1 GB I picked up for $40 a few months ago. I couldn't resist the price. But I still have about 800 MB free on the card.

I've got 800mb in MP3s alone.

With 2gb, I could put complete maps of the US for OCN, as well as the 800 megs for MP3s and have room for various video clips.

Or, when I'm not travelling, I could put more MP3s on.
