I have a HP 5550 and in the wireless under Netword Card I can see my network (the green light is blinking); however when I go to Internet Explorer and type in a web page, I get a message "The page you are looking for can not be found." I've tried this at home and here at work, both places it say it is connected, but no Internet. What am I doing wrong?

Are you using WEP?
If so:
1) Try re-inputting your WEP key.
2) Turn WIFI off and back on.
I have seen this happen on my h5555 and that has done the trick.

Also, the connection may be using the Work network instead of The Internet. In this case, all the other TCP/IP clients will work (for example, you'll be able to download your mail via POP3), just PIE won't. The solution is changing it to using The Internet (click the connection in the Wireless tab, and on the first tab, change 'Work' to 'The Internet' in the drop-down list)
Also, you may have been given a wrong IP address (the DHCP server wasn't able to give you a valid one) that is outside the 192.168.0.x range. You can easily check your current IP address in the Network Card applet. In this case, a reset/reconnect will usually help (so does disabling any Wi-Fi power save mode in some cases).
The third possibility is that the network uses MAC filtering. Then, you can seemingly connect, but can't access anything.

Hey all, I just wanted to say "Thanks!" for this thread.
Thanks, Alvictn, for asking the question to start the thread and good luck on your issue. Wish I could add something that would help in your case.
Thanks to EnsignRam and Menneisys for the advice.
Awhile back, our network at work totally changed due to being acquired. Internet access stopped on my PPC via ActiveSync. Worked fine at home over wifi, but not at work. Work uses a proxy, home doesn't. After reading this thread, I had one of those "OH, yeahhhh..." moments: This is what the whole Work/Internet setting thing is about, you can have 2 very different connection settings. In all my time using PPCs, I've never had to mess with that, everything always needed to be set to "Internet". (Now if I could do the same trick with my work laptop. Have to manually switch IE's proxy settings when at work or away)
Got the internet connection working at work just fine. Then I ran into the "page you are looking for..." while over wifi at home. Oh, yeah, the network card setting...
Sorry, didn't mean to take over the thread, just wanted to say thanks. This is a great community here!

You'll need this app: http://www.download.com/Internet-Explorer-Proxy-Monitor/3000-2366_4-10337071.html
