Not even additional, manual resets help? Then, you'll need to do a hard reset, I'm afraid.

Maybe this is obvious, but remove all memory cards/peripherals before the reset and see if that helps. Also, plug the device in and make sure the battery is charged (or not fully depleted). I don't know if it is possible to remove the battery (while plugged in) but you might consider that as well.

Don't know if these will make a difference, but they might be worth a try before you have to hard reset.

He has probably run out of memory. Cant think of any solution short of a hard reset however.

From http://www.ipaqhq.com/articles/articles/213

If all goes wrong with your device, you can perform a hard reset of the device. A hard reset is basically restoring the device back to factory defaults (just as if you turned it on for the first time). When performing a hard reset, all data will be erased in the internal memory except for the iPaq File Store. We will talk about the iPaq File Store later in this review. To perform a hard reset, press and hold button 1 (Calendar) and button 4 (iTask) and press the soft reset button until the screen fades. Release the buttons and then do another soft reset to activate the device.

A hard reset is a last resort because it resets everything about your device, including erasing all programs and data in RAM.

I think you may need to do the hard reset.

ouch.
It bites when you have to do a hard reset.

You seem like you are fairly new to PPCs, so I'll walk you through back up.

Open Activesync on your desktop/notebook pc.
click 'tools'
click 'backup/restore'

make sure the little dot is next to the full backup option.

make sure the box next to auto backup on each connection is ticked.

If you ever need to do a restore;
1) make sure you enter the same name into the Owner Info screen on the ppc.
2) make sure you enter the same language/country into the Regional Settings on the ppc.

Do those 2 things before you connect to the desktop after a hard reset & Activesync will walk you through the restore.

It's not the best way to backup, but it does work. If you want a more advanced & dependable backup system, check out Sprite Backup Pro from spritesoftware.com

Note also that Activesync does not backup data from storage cards.
