Any rumours or ideas when HP will release another VGA Ipaq?

The competition has all released VGA PPCs well below the 4700 price, so it would seem logical HP already plans a cheaper model.

Since when have 'HP' and 'cheaper' really gone together? Anyway, no, there's no indication of upcoming VGA PocketPCs from HP. I wouldn't look for any until late Summer or early Fall at least.

So it's a one year product cycle for PPCs? A lot of computer stuff has shorter life cycles these days.

Wasn't there a new OS coming pretty soon? Wouldn't that prompt new PPC hardware?

You’d think so, but HP hasn’t announced anything yet, as far as new VGA models go, and there’s no news on a release date for the new Windows Mobile operating system, either. So wile we hypothesize that one’s going to be released at around the same time as the other, we will have to wait until one or the other is officially announced.

Also, you can’t compare PDAs to Desktops like that. A desktop computer has many, many standardized parts that can just be plugged in (sound card, network card, hard drive, etc). A PDA is an all-in-one unit that has to have many of its parts specially made for whatever model it is. It should be logical that it takes more time to design and test a self-contained unit than it is to assemble standard peripherals into a case.

What does HP have planned? Who knows. We’ll find out when they tell us.

And while the 4700/4705 is the highest price VGA device today, I bet HP has sold more than any of the competition. So they are in no hurry.
