1 GB for $100 - Sandisk's MiniSD Nearly Ready

I'm happy, actually. My MPX220 takes MiniSD cards, and with the adapter included, the mini SD can work in my PPC also (not that it'll ever come out of my phone, but still).

I love the idea and can't wait. As long as they continue to offer some kind of adapter I'll be okay with a million different SD / MMC incarnations. It's kind of annoying, but the size benefit for something like a smartphone is awesome over SD.

It is amazing. I found a Lexar 1GB SD card on Amazon for $83. I remember paying $120 for a 128MB SD card just 3 years ago.

If I bought a new PDA and my old accessories didn't work, I'd be disappointed but chalk it up to the cost of the upgrade.

I'm too cheap to be on the bleeding edge (except I just bought a x50v) So I'd have to be aware of the changes I'd need to make

new device, new standards, new accessories.... and I'd hope; better, faster, cooler, etc

So how many of you have a memory card that just stays in your PPC? How about those of you with two slots? One of them could just as well be glued in?

That's me. Wouldn't bother me in the least to have a mini-SD 1G card under the battery on my X50v, an SDIO slot external for peripherals and movie/MP3 cards, and fill the CF space with more battery (or make it a bit thinner).

I have an MPX220 as well and the card pretty much stays in there. There is even a cover over the slot as if the designers intended it that way.

1G Lexar SD and CF cards are under $80 all the time at SAM'S. There around $72 on their site right now.

I bought a 1 gig Lexar from Sams on Monday for only $70.00. I ripped an entire opera to it and went for a LONG bike ride with my iPAQ. Great trip!

Are there any pocket pc's that have mini-sd slots? I haven't seen any that have them afaik.

I'm quite happy with my dual slots. I am in the market for a 2gb sd card. My 1gb just isn't enough for all my applications, games, and references that I keep on it anymore...since the wikipedia is over 500MB now. I had to move my wikipedia to my 1gb cf card which is normally reserved for music and video. The only extra device I like to carry alony is my gprs cf card. I don't like switching cards more than I need to.

I'm definatly a big dual slot fan. There is no way I could use my pocket pc as I do now with only one slot. Not, as long as internal storage is so small.

I need my dual slots for as much memory as I can afford. I do swap cards occasionally but only to plug in a different memory card. I really want a 2 GB SD card (and for that matter a 4GB or even 8GB CF card - although for that price you could buy a new PDA).

I bought a 1GB Sandisk SD for pennies...right before I sold my iPAQ 2215. I decided to keep it, 'cause you never know.

But a 1GB miniSD will be sweet in my SP3i (which replaced the iPAQ and Sony Ericsson T610 combo).

I agree. My MPx220's miniSD is working great with the adapter in my Treo 650. Now my MP3 Mini SD is useful in either unit I am using!!

I can take it from my MPX220 to the palm and into my x50v hassle free.....except my fat fingers getting it out of my 200! :lol:

I can't believe I sat there at Best buy last night staring at a 256MB miniSD card for $50. (I had a gift certificate)
Good thing I added some $$ and went for the BT headset instead! :) Now I can wait and pick this bad boy up when it comes out...

I just bought an MPX220 and was thinking how annoying it was that it takes Mini-SD cards because I have all these old SD cards lieing around. (Don't even ask about the CF cards I have.)

Soon we'll be putting memory cards in and taking them out with a tweezer.

I don't think I've ever taken my card out unless I wanted to stick it into my card reader to do file transfers. From experience, the battery drain is negligible.

Is that the Kingmax 60x (10MB/sec) 1GB SD card from NewEgg? I bought me another one of those just a couple of days ago (still under $80)... The new version of this Kingmax uses the more traditional dark blue flexible plastic casing, vs the previous maroon hard casing (which I kinda liked since it seems a lot sturdier). But at least the new version has the write-lock tab...

Does anyone know if this SanDisk miniSD is also rated around 10MB/sec read/write?

How about the previously mentioned SanDisk full SD card that has a built-in USB connector?

Actually, no. The ones I got were the Silicon Power 1GB Ultima cards - but I purchased those in Singapore. After doing the currency conversions, they roughly translated to ~US$70.

Sandisk must be the most "Nearly Ready" company on the planet. I've been hearing about 2G SD cards for what seems like an eternity and they are still mostly unavailable. Seems like a pattern with many of their flash memory products.

IMO, SD is already at the lower limit of size that's comfortable to use and store. MiniSD is too small, too easy to misplace, too easy to damage.

1 GB SD cards are commonly available for under $70 and even under $60 if you shop well. So $100 is not much of a bargain.

We're waiting since last November for SanDisk's 2 GB SD card. I'd be more likely to trust their latest press releases if they'd deliver what they've already announced in their previous press releases.

If you can use an SD card then go for it. Its cheaper. I have an Audiovox smt5600 and can only use a miniSD card so at $100 it is a great deal.
