It seems like not a day goes by that I don't read about them hopping in the sack with another wireless provider or device OEM. Not that I'm complaining, mind you - Skype's a mighty fine little application, full of ripe, glistening promise. Just remember that you'll need a device capable of wireless data that ISN'T GPRS.

Actually i have an i-mate jam and i installed skype's s/w. It seems really great with great sound quality. i have an unlimited GPRS connection so its online most of the time.. but it works great with the 56kb/s GPRS speed.. Actually i just installed the s/w today so i just have a small problem if anybody can help that would be great... after i make a phone call, i can hear them very well but they cant hear me, so i think there is something wrong with the settings... if anybody experieced anything pls just post a reply.... Anyway its a neat peice of s/w...

- What carrier/plan are you on for unlimited GPRS in Canada? How much does this cost?
- I'm planning on getting a Siemens SX66 when Rogers releases them in the near future, and will need to switch from TDMA to GSM/GPRS.
- Also is 56Kbps the low end or high end for GPRS connections? What is the range typically?

Thanks,

Rombo

I'm still waiting for my Blue Angel so I didn't know and had also asked about this at:
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36001&start=12

So Pocket Skype will only be included in ROM in future batches of PDA2K & Jam units, but existing units would have to just download it separately or wait for next ROM upgrade?

Also saru83, you mean Pocket Skype VoIP can actually be made to work over GPRS? That's great news :D I'd assumed the software itself somehow automatically disables the VoIP part when it detects a GPRS connection instead of Wi-Fi (even though the PPCThoughts Skype interview did say that sometimes GPRS is fast enough supposedly)...

I'm guessing Fido, at $50/"unlimited" MB.

Hi there,

As a reply to all ur quistions,

(rombo)
-I use Fido, Unlimited is for 50 CDN.
-I used be with Rogers but they suck... their Unlimited plan is for 100 CDN , dont go for Rogers.
-56kb/s is the highest u can get in GPRS connection.

Yes, skype works on GPRS, but as i mentioned b4 that i can hear whom i called very well but they cant hear me... i think there is something wrong with the settings... but sound quality is clear enough... at least better than Dialpad....
