I'm looking at getting a 2.2 gig CF microdrive for $83. That is about twice the storage I'd get with a regular CF card.
I have a 3950 with a CF plus expansion pack and already have a 1 gig SD card.
That would mean I'd have a very tasty 3.2 gigs of storage with my unit.
Besides sucking battery power - are there real drawbacks to microdrives?
Would I be better off putting programs on the SD card - and movies & mp3s on the microdrive as far as speed goes?

Not really - recent microdrives are pretty shock-proof.

Yes. All decent media players (BetaPlayer etc) can use even tens of megabytes of RAM for buffering stuff, so you can greatly lower the power consumption.

I know what you're saying -- my brain isn't happy with the idea, either, when there are solid state alternatives available (albeit three or four times the price).
But... I keep thinking of all those iPods and iRivers and Archos (etc etc) units out there...
..Hmmm... I think I might order a microdrive... :|
