How about something that doesn't rely on those outdated roman numerals or gaudy rotating hands? :) How about something REALLY cool that strengthens your position as a bonafide GEEK to all your friends and family? Well, ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce to you <a href="http://www.handango.com/ampp/store/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&productId=153642&productType=2">BrainThump Binary Clock</a><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/screenshot.jpg" /><br /><br />In reading this, it helps to have some sort of background in computer architecture or electronic circuit design. So if reading binary numbers is your thing... or maybe you just enjoy confusing others, you can pick it up from <a href="http://www.handango.com/ampp/store/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&productId=153642&productType=2">Handango</a> for $9.95. And in case you're still wondering, the time displayed is 11 minutes and 37 seconds past midnight! <i>Hopefully, the hour and minutes were already obvious to everyone, right? ;)</i><br /><br /><b>Post-Edit</b> - Actual time corrected! My Geekiness doesn't measure up!!

Hmmm... the geek in me tells me its actually 11 minutes and 37 seconds past... :)

Sorry Ekkie, you must not be too geeky.

I was going t opost about the seconds....I have to get this.

I have one of the desk clocks on my kitchen counter and people always ask me how it works. I never tell them. Only that its too technical for you just trust me.

I think 10 bucks is a little much but hey I am a gekk at heart so I must have it. It is actually a good conversation starter! In the right situations of course.

Anyone else just glance at the clock in the upper right of the screenshot for the time?

Ah, but are the seconds right? No point in precision without accuracy.

Sure, each base-10 digit is represented in binary, but it's broken up based on base-10 notation.

A true binary clock should have just 3 values for hours, minutes, seconds... with 5, 6, and 6 digits respectively (or just 6 for each to make it pretty)

Or better, just one value for the number of seconds that have elapsed since January 1, 1970.

The time is actually 00:11:37.

I stand corrected everyone... 37 seconds... not 36 seconds!!

:mecry:

Ugh!! I've been made out... not worthy of true Geekiness as is the case with our great PPCT community!!

:werenotworthy:

Post has been corrected! Thanks everyone ;)!

I have one of the actual binary clocks in my living room - works great to confuse people (Its fun to see them try to count and make sense of the red LEDs...). I don't know how useful it would be on a PPC, but probably would still have the confusing effect.

On a side note, my fiance bought this wonderful gem for me, along with a shirt that reads "There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who do not" :devilboy:

Jon, that's a pretty funny quote!!

You know, this is the 2nd time this past week that your girl has been recognized as a keeper b/c of how she helps complement you in with your geeky ways!! :)

I think it's time we made your girl into an example for our girlfriends to follow!!

They want $10 for this when you can get a real binary clock for $20 at thinkgeek?

Took me a while to figure it out, never seen a binary clock before, I ended up at http://www.thinkgeek.com/cubegoodies/lights/59e0/.

I also found java clock at http://www.california.com/~binard/java/Binclock.html and this http://www.danny-newport.com/Winprogs.html which has a Windows CE binary clock somewhere on the page.

Yea... but she can go overboard... Right now she's taking over my Compaq Evo to play Sims II on it.... and has been playing sims for about 5 hours... ;)

Once I get her really using her Viewsonic, I'll make sure she gets hooked up with a forum account ;)

You geeks have all the fun. I just spent the last 10 minutes trying to figure this out (one website said I'll be a Pro in a "few" minutes) and I can't even get close.

Seems like a nice conversational peice. I'd get one, but since I can't figure it out that doesn't seem like such a good idea :D .

Shawnc; the answer is quite simple. First point is you read vertically, not horizontally. Second the gray circles are position only; you need to look only at the red lights. The first two columns have no red lights so they are 00 (hours). The next two columns each have one red light in the one's row, so that is 11 (minutes). The next to last column has a red in the one's and a red in the two's row, so that is 3. The final column has 3 red lights (one in four's row, one in two's row, and one in one's row) which adds to 7. Current time 00:11:37

Do a search on Handango using "binary" and you'll find a FREE version of the binary clock for Pocket PC.
