OK I just buy this and have no idea what I'm doing. I have a laptop I'm trying to talk to with no luck. Also I see the 5500 does not come with NEVO can I put it on there?? What other stuff should I know before I mess it up to bad???

thanks for your time

Hi Mat, & welcome to the forum.

I've got a 5555 too, and they're mostly a great PPC. Firstly, have you installed Activesync (on the companion CD) on your laptop? If you have, then are you using the cradle to sync with your PDA, or are you doing it wireless?
I believe that Nevo can be installed on the 5555, but the IRDA doesn't have the range that your TV or Hifi remote do, so few people bother with it.
Have a look around the forum for software posts. There's a LOT of lists of people's favourite / must have software.
My 5555 has done some strange things to me, but in the end a couple of hard resets has so far always got me out of trouble. But make sure that you back up your PPC regularly, or it takes a loooong time to re-install all your data, apps, & programs. I tend to back up before I add any new software to my device, then if I don't like the new software, or if it does something screwy to my PPC, I can just refresh with the backup & get rid of it.

Unlike its predecessor, the 5450, the 5550 no longer has CIR (Customer InfraRed). This is why it doesn't have Nevo either. I don't, therefore, think you'll be able to use your iPAQ as a long-distance remote controller. However, as Nevo can't be downloaded separately and you'll need to resort to third-party remote controller apps, I've compiled a list of the available non-Nevo remote controller apps.

PDAwin's TV Remote Controller ( http://www.pdawin.com/tvremote.html ), it's prolly the best (albeit not as good as Nevo). See, for example, the voting at http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10901&postdays=0&postorder=asc&vote=viewresult .

VITO Remote 3.5.1: http://www.vitotechnology.com/en/products/remote.html. IMHO, not as good as TV Remote Controller, but you could give it a try.

Remote Control II ( http://www.wincesoft.de/ ). Actually, this is the only remote app that works flawlessly with the Pocket Loox 720 (see e.g. http://www.firstloox.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2745 on this).

There're two hardware-specific, but, without them, also working remote apps: UltraMote ( http://www.ultramote.com/; the download section is located at http://www.ultramote.com/download.php ) and Total Remote ( http://www.griffintechnology.com/software/software_totalremote.html ).

I can not find any way to type them in do I need that program on my desk top?? Also I have a laptop I can go wireless to that right? I have sync on that but I can not get conected. Thanks for what you have done so far.

You can directly enter them at your desktop Outlook and let ActiveSync synchronize it with your PDA.

Alternatively, you may use other clients on the desktops (e.g., Lotus Notes), but then, you'll need to use third party synchronizing apps like IntelliSync.

Also I have a laptop I can go wireless to that right?

If your notebook doesn't natively contain any wireless technology (Wi-Fi / BT), put a Wi-Fi or/and a BT (I'd prefer Wi-Fi) USB dongle in your notebook. They're very cheap, around 20-30 US$.

Read http://www.wifizard.com/tutorialsXP/sync/index.htm, it's one of the best tutorials. Also, MS's own tutorial can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;818199 .

I see a lot of games and other stuff on ebay is that good?

Yes, but why buy on ebay (you'll inevitably run into pirated stuff there - PPC software is, in general, not packaged)? Why not buy directly from e.g. handango?

How about pocket dvd does that work good?

Yes, it does.
