Have you ever been able to successfully synchronize or is this your first attempt?

If you were successful in the past, what changes have taken place on your desktop since that time?

Hmmm....

I think you're saying that you synchronized successfully using another computer in a mall but this is your first time trying to synchronize with your laptop?

Does the username you're using with your laptop have administrative rights? Are you using a version of ActiveSync that came with your PPC/WM device or is it downloaded from the MS site? What version of Outlook are you using?

hope to hear from you ekkie.

yup, first time to synchronized at my laptop but i encounter that problem.

how can i know if my laps have administrative rights? what should i do to eliminate that problem?

i use the cd which included in the package, not the download from microsoft website.

also everytime i open the outlook, there is pop up message...

"unable to open your default open email folder. would you like to open your default file system folder instead?

outlook is 2002, SP1.

thanks for welcoming me! :)

Okay. Now this is becoming more clear.

You may have multiple issues here, but let's address the obvious ones first and then proceed from there.

First, you need to resolve your Outlook issue. That error message from Outlook tells me that it is looking for a PST file that doesn't exist or is located in a folder that your current username does not have access to.

Question: have you ever had Outlook running successfully for you on this laptop? If no, then we need to address that first. Also, do you have another version of Outlook running on another computer that carries critical personal information? If so, then we need to synchronize the PST file from that computer to your laptop.

i used outlook express, but since my new hp ipaq required to install the microsoft outlook i installed it without any problem on installation (except when i start to run it)

also for my outlook express, i still used it at my home for retrieving some message from our office. i did not encounter any problem in retrieving e-mail file from my laps.

how can i retrieve tha PST if that is the problem, or do you have any other way to solve the problem?

thanks a lot for the time, hope we can solve this problem :)

Okay. I know you want to sychronize your PDA with your laptop, but you'll need to concentrate on being able to launch Outlook without any errors first.

The PST file is a file that Outlook creates to store all of your emails, tasks, contacts, appointments, and notes. The error you are seeing tells me that Outlook never successfully created a PST file or is unable to access it for some reason.

Forget ActiveSync, you need to first launch Outlook and allow it to create a PST file for you (that should happen automatically when Outlook runs and you configure it to download your email). I'm not familiar with the error you are seeing, but I would allow Outlook to open the "default folder" and then try importing your Outlook Express data (File->Import and Export->Import Internet Mail & Addresses... then choose the option that says Outlook Express). Assuming that is set up successfully, I'd try sending and receiving email to ensure Outlook can retrieve your mail succesfully, then close and re-open Outlook to ensure it can be opened without any errors.

Assuming you can do all of that, then I'd try sync'ing again using ActiveSync.

hello ekkie, now i can synchronize. i just remove program of microsoft outlook 2002 (included in package of my ipaq) and retain the existing outlook express.

i try your advise regarding pst file, but the outlook i installed in my laps are still encountering problem, every time i click option in outlook express theres always a pop-up proble..."no file are availble...." thats why i decided to delete the outlool.

i think i solve the synch problem without knowing how did it :D

thanks for the help ekkie!

I'm glad things worked out for you. I didn't even know that ActiveSync could function with just Outlook Express alone.

Understand that you don't have the ability to synchronize tasks, appointments, contacts, or notes. Only emails and basic contact information if I understand Outlook Express correctly.

If you'd like to be able to sychronize everything, you'll eventually need to find a way to get Outlook working again.

Good luck.

ekkie, at my activesync window you can read status of favorites & files --> "synchronized". for calendar, contacts and inbox the status indicate "sync status is on the device"

is there any problem with the above status information after i synchornize my ipaq?

also one more thing, previously i used palm pilot and at my laptop i can check the calendar and task at my laptop using palm, but for my ipaq i cannot check and edit the calendar and task at my laps, only at i can edit and check the calendar and task at my ipaq? is there any way i can edit and check the calendar and task at my laptop?

thanks ekkie.

This is exactly what I was talking about.

Outlook Express does not support a calendar or a task list. Outlook does. Contact information is also much more detailed and fully functional with Outlook than with Outlook Express.

If you want the ability to view and edit all the same information with regards to contacts/calendar/tasks, then you'll need Outlook.

I recommend you try re-installing Outlook and see if you can get it to run successfully if you want the ability to do what you're asking for.

No you don't download a PST file.

The PST file is created by Outlook if Outlook runs correctly. Just install Outlook and then see if you can run the program without it giving you errors.

One warning though, if Outlook can be run without errors and you're ready to re-synchronize, backup your data. There's a chance that ActiveSync will delete all of the data on your PocketPC when it syncs.

ActiveSync issues can be tricky. I've recently had a few problems myself.

Here are a couple of information links that helped me out...
