It isn't like that stuff doesn't self destruct enough on its own.

This could be useful if you have someone over that is incompetent when it comes to computers...
Person: Can I use your computer?
You: Sure! Wait a sec...*turn keys and flip switches*
Computer: System Lockdown Initiated
Person: Why can't I even get into the Internet?
You: I don't know. Maybe you should learn more before you try...

Now all we need is a countdown timer and some Rooskies to obliterate!
Heh, I want that mounted on the server at work!

sadly, this is incorrect. This is only a model and is not functional, it is not usb, the button will not start up Internet Explorer.

Sorry to burst the bubble, but I spent an hour trying to order the thing before i spotted 'As for function this way as a switch completely being not to be, please note.'
Maybe someone could make a functional one some day. With flashing lights.

From that site it is called:
Suicide bombing button DX

Auto-Translators can be so strange...

Yup. Take it as Destruct = Bombing, such as a nuke warhead arming device, and take Suicide as Self, as it has been mathematically shown that there are no winners in a nuclear war. So Self Destruct is kind of fitting, I think. It would be a nice thing to have on the front of the computer though, I have friends with kids who love to push buttons, and this would prevent many an accidental shutdown.
Surely an enterprising person could fashion one out of electronic store parts (like RadioShack), however the wireing would be a bit tricky once you add in the stage failsafe buttons. IF & & & & & & THEN ARM. easy in code, lost o' soldering in hardware.

How soon can they have a Bluetooth version?

... there are no winners in a nuclear war.
Actually, World War II was a nuclear war. I'd say we won that one.

pffft! You are correct sir. But I refer to post WWII, where both sides of the battle have nukes at disposal, the result is mutually assured destruction. Of course there are variants where this is not necessarily the case, such as suitcase nukes, but this labours the point of this topic methinks :)

Bingo. Back on topic, can you imagine the possibilities of the wifi version of this device. ;-)

Yeah, just try walking through airport security carrying one. I am sure you will have enough time in the cell counting the possibilities... :-)

How soon can they have a Bluetooth version?
that is the last thing we need -a self destruct button that doesn't work. :p

Didn't you vow not to be so... negative about Bluetooth a while back when there was that story about that hacker and T-Mobile?

I think this is really cool, but how do you stop people from pressing it, just to see what it does?

Well, it looks like to enable it, you have to have the key inserted... but I'm not sure... :? :? :?

Big difference in saying it may not be dead and saying it is still a pain in the neck to use technology that gives me fits at least 3-4 times a week.
Bluetooth is like McDonalds. It isn't good for you, it is everywhere and I don't like it one bit, yet there are times I find a 6 pack of McNuggets in my hands. :|

This self-destruct button would go nicely with my "Take-a-number-grenade-pin-complaint-sign"

Bluetooth works fine for me on PalmOS, OSX, and various Nokia and Siemens cell phones. The only Bluetooth problems I've ever encountered involved a PPC (but it's usually trouble-free on that platform too). Not to get off-topic, but what are you doing with Bluetooth 3-4 times/week that's causing frustration?

Turning it on.
Seriously. My Nokia 3650 has to be "soft reset" at least weekly because the BT acts up. The 2215 has to be soft reset a few times a week for the same reason. My new PDA2K often has to be soft reset to enable BT and sometimes when ActiveSyncing with my Dell D600 via bluetooth, AS just hangs and i have to soft reset the PDA2K again. That never happens with IR sync, WiFi sync or via the cable. Only bluetooth.
I am about ready to buy a cable for my office so I can sync there without lining up IR ports all of the time and then I'll probably never turn bluetooth on again.

a couple of resistors, leds and one or two 555 timers and you could have this blinking in no time... now if I could find a way to wire it to the phone handsets of some of my more challenging customers.... "Can You hold Please While I Check On That?" <insert pressing the button>
