View Full Version : How can I hook up to GPRS on my 6315?

Hello,

I just bought an unlocked h6315 and can make and receive calls just fine using my AT&T SIM. I'd like to be able to access my email and surf via AT&T GPRS. How do I set up the connections in order to do that? A link would be fine rather than a long explaination of something that I'm sure has been covered here before. Sorry to ask what's probably be answered.

Do you have an ATT data plan? If so you just need to dial the right number. I found an description at http://weblog.infoworld.com/dickerson/000254.html that is for using a PPC with a BT phone over ATT. You would just leave out the BT connection piece. I would think you could just call ATT wireless tech support as well, if you have a data plan. The T-Mobile guys walked me through it the first time.

Sven,

Thanks. I do have a data plan and use it regularly with my Jornada 568 and my Motorola V600 but I dial *99# with that setup. I'll try *99***1# and see what happens.

Thanks,

Bill

Good luck. I feel your pain. I just got a smartphone and am going to have to go through the same dance with it, having been using a PPC over my T-610 just fine on T-Mobile.

Sven,

No joy! The *99***1# didn't work either. I'll continue the march and use my V600/Jornada 568 combination until I sort it out. I'll keep you posted.

1, if you know where you can fill in the data account details (most importantly, the APN name), create a data account in your 6315.

2, if you don't, pass this information to your built-in GPRS modem by the CGDCONT command in your init string, which can be supplied along with the dial-in number.

The format of the init string should be the following:

+cgdcont=1,"IP","<apn name"[,"",1,1], where the optional part switch on V.42bis data compression/error correction, therefore, of high utility.

Herre, the data account number is 1 (the 1st param passed to +CGDCONT), so, you'll need to use the

*99***1#

dial-in number.

You can also put a Z and/or a &f in front of your init string to reset your modem first and/or reload the factory defaults. Some modems (esp. those in Siemens mobiles) need it.

I'm back,

Since this is a T-Mobile branded phone, many of the input parameters are apparently assumed to be TMo and, therefore, are not accessable. I think this one will go back on eBay this evening and I'l wait for and unbranded 6315 to show up on the market.

I though Sprint had a long exclusive on the Treo 650 but it's nothing compared to TMo's exclusive with the h6315. I wonder if HP will ever bring out an unbranded version?
