<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.ppcw.net/?itemid=2221' target='_blank'>http://www.ppcw.net/?itemid=2221</a><br /><br /></div><i>"It happens from time to time, you are in hurry in the morning and you leave your home but also leaving either your wallet or your Pocket PC (Phone Edition) or mobile phone. If this happens to me, I feel completely naked. It's less a problem if I leave my wallet at home but it becomes a serious problem if I leave my Smartphone. You can always borrow money from friends or co-workers but how to borrow personal communication facilities? Therefore, everything < 20 minutes I return to pick-up my Smartphone something never happened if i forgot my wallet (at home - for sure not at a restaurant or other public places)."</i><br /><br />Arne targets his discussion to Windows Mobile-based phone devices, although we can generalize the discussion a little bit to include Pocket PCs. In my case, I just use the same trick as for my wallet or keys -- which is to never ever forget it -- so I'm never stuck. I generally "pat my pockets" whenever leaving a location for the day (i.e., leaving home for work, leaving work for lunch, leaving work for home, etc), just to make sure. What about you? Have you left your precious at home and had to go back and get it? Or did you try to "tough the day out" and suffer? Time to share some stories. :D
You need a small Bluetooth alarm module which zaps you if you get out of Bluetooth range... I'll leave it to your imagination where it could be best placed...
...although with the Bluetooth problems some people are having it may be a little painful.

Since I am reading and responding to this on my Jam I can't imagine leaving it anywhere.
I live and work in Kuwait. As a ritual everyone I work with will place thier sunglasses and phones in front of them when we sit down anywhere. They're also the first things we reach for while getting up. The good news in the event of an unfortunately misplaced PPCPE, PPC, mobile phone is that most corporate offices here have mandoubs (professional gophers) and he can run out to play the hero and retrieve your gear.

I find it quite a handicap if I leave my PPC at home. I've returned home to get it (30 minute drive), delayed a flight to go back and get it and even had it FedEx'd to me. I find it very difficult to keep on top of things and keep going without my PPC. The same can be said for my cell phone. The two together are a must so I can have access to the internet and work.
One trick I use when I go into a restaurant is to place my keys on the table with my PPC. I'm not too likely to leave without the keys.
However, that couldn't work last night in the airport when I left my cell phone on the table at a restaurant. I only got about two gates away when I realized I had left it. I have developed a habit of checking for my wallet, cell phone and PPC as I walk.

Since my Pocket PC and Phone are an integral part of my job, if I forget either one, I have to go get it. I believe it has happened only once, however.
I have forgotten my wallet before, several times, as well as my money (I do not keep money in my wallet) , but I did not go back for either. I just borrow cash if I need it , and my Pocket PC has all my credit card numbers, driver records, etc. in ewallet. I did drop my Pocket PC once and cracked the screen, and I was truly lost for a day until I got a new one.

I have forgotten my keys and locked myself in the garage.
I have put on white socks and tennis shoes to walk the dog then forget to change socks later.
I have forgotten my wallet.
I have forgotten my watch.
I have made my lunch then drove off while it sat on the counter.
I have left my glasses at home and realized half way in I was squinting.
One day I almost forgot to take a shower. Got busy doing some work and jumped up got dressed and started to head out and realized it.
I even forgot my laptop one day and had to use another workstation at work.
I can honestly say though since getting my first PDA in 1998, I have never forgotten it.

I've only left my wallet at home once (and asked a parking attendant to let me slide for one day on the 50-cent parking fee, to which she asked "Are you going to forget your wallet tomorrow"... I really had to restrain myself from beating her senseless for that asinine comment), but leaving my PPC at home has happened 2 or 3 times.
My method? I've gotten in the mode of 'patting myself down' every time I get up to go somewhere. I check my back pocket (wallet) and front pocket (keys & PPC) by just brushing up against them. It looks natural, and I know I've got everything.
Now if I can just find the 2 SD cards I lost last week, I'll be happy... ;)

I have a PPC and a cell phone. I forgot my cell phone at home once and I was able to get by without it. I forgot my PPC a couple of times and had to drive back home to get it. I can't be without my PPC!

My biggest case of PDA separation anxiety was when I accidentaly left it at my girlfriends house on the night before a buisness trip. Once I realized what I had done, I called her to have her FedEx my hotel.
Now I have redundency with my Ipaq 2215 and Motorola Mpx220, so I would be in really sad shape if I managed to lose or forget both. Besides, my pants don't feel right is there isn't the proper amount of gadgets the pockets.

Can't forget my PPCPE. I'd probably run mad if I did. It's crazy how addicted we are to these things. MY PPCPE is:
My Phone
My PIM
My Access to the internet
My music player
My movie media player
My video game console
My camera
My whole life revolves around my PPCPE currently IPAQ H6315. I started of with a palm in the late 90's and have never been without a PDA since. So yeah! Forgetting my PDA at home or wherever is something I'm scared to even think about.

Like others have mentioned, I pat myself down to be sure I have it with me. I have left it at home a couple of times when I went out to walk the dogs. Then, I walk faster and pray that I don't have a fall on the trail and can't dial 911, etc.

I usually have 2 PPC's (the PL 720 and the 2210) with me, so that, in meetings etc., I can record the stuff into MP3 on my 2210, while doing some work (incl. reboots) on my PL720. So, if I leave one of them at home, I can still use the other :)

One day I almost forgot to take a shower. Got busy doing some work and jumped up got dressed and started to head out and realized it.
I have, a number of times, gotten into the shower, soaped up and gotten out, forgetting to rinse .
The few times I have forgotten my Pocket PC, or other handheld, I returned to the apartment to retrieve it. Ended up being about a half hour late to work.

I had forgotten about my iPAQ several times and I went back home to get it. Then I started to leave my car key on top of the iPAQ whenever I put it down. I haven't forgotten about the iPAQ since :)

One day I was on my way to the lake about an hour away from my house. I stopped by the convince store to get smoke drinks and snacks. As I was putting the drinks in an ice chest, I set my Jornada on the tailgate of my truck. I drove off and didn't remember that I had left it there until I got to the lake. I freaked out, and drove all the way back to the convince store. But of course no one had seen it. That was a long time ago, with the original Jornada (the really heavy black one) and I still get sad when I think about it. Some jerk stole it, because I had my phone number and every thing set to display when it came on. They probably just wiped it out and reloaded it, or sold it to some punk.
Sorry, I’m still a little bitter about it, even though I know I was the stupid one for leaving it on the back of the truck.

first fo all i donot have a smartphone but i have a cell phone and if i leave my phone home i turn around and go get it because i am a fosterparent and i never know when i have call to get a child and i feel lonely if i donot have it
I don't think it's so much that we 'love our little gadget-toys', it's that these PPCs have almost replaced our laptops, for us road-warrior types. I'd have to return home for my PPC if time permitted but I just don't forget it.

Just last night I forgot my PPC at home. Was being stupid and wanted to make sure everything was synced just before leaving and what do you I forgot it. And yes I did have to go back for it. Besides I work over night for 12 hours and it was a good surprise for my wife. As for my mobile phone there are many times I wish I had or could forget it.

I've never forgotten my PPC during the week. It's a part of my morning routine and I make sure it's in my bag before leaving for work. Now on the weekend, it's a different story.

I spend an average of $500 on each of my phones and/or PDA's. Some as high as $800. I can assure you that I know EXACTLY where they are at all times :D

Having had a handeld of some description now since the mid 90's i can honestly say that I know where mine is at every waking hour in the day.
My wallet, well that is another story. Needless to say that the wife is happy when i leave it at home as it means i can't be spending more money on more toys!

 My hp6315 is a combination phone-pda so I really have a problem when I forget it. After reading these replies I decided to set an alarm for 5 minutes before my usual departure time in the morning so if the unit is not already in its case and on my belt I can take care of that.

Even though my PPC will sync in the case, I take the case off unless I'm just syncing it really quick, waiting on it an leaving. I leave the flap hanging over my purse to remind me to grab the PPC before I go.
If I did leave it, I would have to go back & get it. I would be lost without it!
The keys on top is a good idea.

I can count the number of times I have forgotten my pda when going to over the last year on one hand. On every occasion I have returned home to get it...that can be an extra 45 minutes. On one occasion I had to wait till lunch. Its sad but I am really lost task-wise if I don't have my "brain".

The pocket pat is the way to go in order not to forget things. But it does happen every blue moon and usually I get real pissed and throw things, once eleviated I just walk into the other room and get it, nothing like working from home :-) (well, sometimes)
