automatic wi-fi connect

I am looking to see if there is software that will automaticily search out and try connecting the all avalible wi-fi networks and verifiy there is a userable connection and connect to that one (essentialy stop searching, untill it needs to). Does anyone know if somthing like this exists? i thought i remembered reading somthing like this here, but could not find anything like it (oh well, maybe a figment of my imaginaition).
