You can give them to me (just kidding), or you can store them somewhere. ePorter Inc. have just released a new range of mini-memory card cases (the mPorter and iPorter) which do the latter. Each case holds up to three memory cards (SD, MMC, SM, MS, MSD and xD) and can also act as a keychain. At $9.95 for two cases, would any of you make this your Pocket PC's best friend?

No CF? and Three cards only? I need something bigger than that. :)

That is absolutely brilliant! I have one SD in my Ipaq, one in the pocket in the case, and I need to carry Mini SD cards for my MPX 220.

Life is indeed good. I'm gonna grab one of these right away!

I dont' like it. I looked at the photos and it's bigger then the alarm remote for my car. I hate having that remote on my keychain. If you look closer, it's made like photo album, with the cards being held on plastic pages. I wish the made a tiny one for SD cards only, that didn't have pages are was big enough to hold 3 SD cards stacked without any clips. Then it would be small enough for my taste. But it's a brilliant Idea, wish I thought of it.

Such a simple idea, yet so functionally innovative.

Very nice.

Too bad the case looks like a Palm! Brilliant idea though, I think I may just have to pick one up!

Clever idea! But with a case that stores two SD cards, getting a case for only one more wouldn't help much.

The size doesn't bother me. I buy large key chains so I can find my keys and still I never know where they are. Just another added worry. I lost my keys - O, my God they contained my SD cards.

if you're very careful with an x-acto knife you can convert the plastic cases that SD cards come in, after a little trimming they will hold 3 comfortably. that's what i did.

Just did this and it works great! Thanks for the simple idea :twak:

I like it, but not for me...yet. With an Axim X50v I use the SD slot to hold programs, so it doesn't come out (besides the Rhino-Skin that I use when I leave the office has 2 holders for SD cards). So it is the CF slot that I swap with, thus my interest in a better way to keep track of those cards.

i had to think of something, because security won't let us bring memory cards to work (even though there isn't a computer in the building with a reader), luckily SD cards don't set off the metal detector so you can just slip 'em in your back pocket.

however i ruined 2 cards this way, the constant wear caused them to split at the seams and the write-protect tab got lost. luckily i had a already corrupted sandisk that i was able to steal the tab from, but that one got lost too. so now i have a corrupted tabless sandisk, and 2 functional read-only lexars. i have since switched to kingmax because they don't even have a tab and are solid-state as opposed to 2 pieces glued together, but i still wanted to protect them, hence the case hack.

sorry for the long story, i usually just lurk :)

I use a very small vinyl case with mesh pockets that unfolds and has velcro fasteners. It holds 3 SD cards and isn't too thick.

Besides, you can never have too many memory cards! 8O

Is this a commercially available case? Could you mention the brand, so that we could check it out? Thank you!

This looks good. I currently use a huge LowePro CF case to hold my three extra SD cards. I may have to order one! Or maybe one like the previous two posters mention.

This seems to be the best idea. That case seems to be made from the same plastic that the cards are sold in. The case is 9.95 and there's 2.50 for shipping. I don't think that it's worth 12.50. This is something you would get as a prize in a box of Cracker Jacks. I was going to get it just because of the key ring but I looked at it again and what allenalb did seems best.

I just added the SanDisk MobileMate SD+ (http://www.sandisk.com/corporate/media/photos-mm.asp) minireader to my keychain, which replaces the original SanDisk Cruzer (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0201/02010702sandiskcruzer.asp) portable SD-card flash drive from years back.

I'm thinking if I add this ePorter SD case to my keychain to complement the MobileMate reader, I might as well stick with the abovementioned Cruzer SD drive? The Cruzer is about the width of two MobileMates (see abovelinked photos), but it can fully enclose an SD card inside of it for travelling. In fact as you might recall the Cruzer is a nifty gadget, with a sliding button that also hides the USB plug flush inside it for travelling :)

What would be awesome is if SanDisk updates the original Cruzer model with a smaller and faster USB 2.0 version, with all the same benefits (fully enclosed SD card and USB plug for travelling)!

P.S. If only Pocket PCs have a built-in USB port and can also serve as generic USB mass storage drives when plugged into a computer :(

It is a commercially available product. Unfortunately, there is no tag or anything on it. I bought it at Best Buy and it was something like 6.95. And after looking at it, it's leather "looking", (not sure it is leather), and vinyl on the inside. If I recall correctly, it's made by a company that makes carrying cases for electronic products like Case Logic or Kensington or some brand like that.

I use an antique jewel box, or something, I'm not really sure what it is. My mother gave it to me, something she picked up at a junk shop back in about 1975, for my 15th birthday. It had leftover solder in two places inside the bottom, not symmetrically placed, but I suppose they might have been holding some sort of clips for cufflinks or earrings. I scraped the lead down to the brass, polished it up a little, and have used it for a range of things ever since. I kept miniature carvings in it for a lot of years, things I'd whittled out of bone, wood, soapstone, jade... The odd little shell has lived there too. Then when I started getting CF cards I realised they were almost a perfect fit, so that's been the use for it these past 4 years or more. Joan of Arc, I think.

Fits three CF cards, or two CF and 4 SD. Rattles a little, but there's felt lining the bottom so that's not too bad. The severely worn lable on the card is because I'm forever swapping them between two PPCs, a card reader on the notebook, and the box.

I've used those plastic ones for SD and CF cards, the containers the cards come in new, but find them too easily lost. A clunky baroque metal box suit my temperament better, sort of captures a part of my brain and refuses to get lost. I always know where I left it, unlike my keys.

that's really cool, i wonder where i can get one of those (and if it would set off the metal detector)

You can get them at the website linked in the original post. The whole thing appears to be plastic, so I would imagine it would not set off a metal detector...

LOL. I think allenalb was referring to Gerard's metal storage box. :D

Yeah, with those sharp brass corners a terrorist could probably hack a pilot to death... if he just sat there for a while, heavily sedated. And CF cards, those are like ninja stars only cleverly disguised as memory modules. Very dangerous. Better stick with 5¢ worth of plastic on a keychain, it's safer.

now i'm half tempted to stock up on 32 meg cards just to have something to throw at co-workers as i scream "bow before me and FEAR my Compact Flash of Death!"

Hi all

Two things... first:
I use an antique jewel box

I think the little box is an antique ashtray, believe it or not. My Grandmother had one, about 1"^2 and had a spring loaded 3/4" cigarette-rest that flipped out on the side. I wish I had a picture to post here, but here is a quick EBAY search: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=594&item=6148543633&rd=1

Second, and back the topic, the horizontal HP case for the 2200 series (and maybe the other 4xxx series fit?) has two slots in the front that are elastic, underneith the cover. I have put SD cards in there in a pinch. They are reasonably protected (at least as much as the iPaq). Few people realize these little slots exist. My buddy figured it was just decoration on his.

Thank you for the research AXE. It could well be that this was once a portable ('Pocket', making it fit in with the whole over-used Pocket-Everything nomenclature) ashtray. The offset locations of the two spots of solder would place such cigarette cradles in about the right places for two smokers to share the thing. Funny, I've never been a smoker, but my mother eventually died of her habit. Growing up, we'd often resorted to making ashtrays in clay and other materials when making gifts for her... as the things seemed so much a part of her identity. As time wore on she tended towards jar lids, de-glamourising the habit almost to a ridiculous point. Strange to think there was a time when to smoke was to be one of the beautiful people.
