The above is sort of what the text looks like on my ipaq (without the periods). There is a program called "text reader" that works great for notepad documents but is there one for word documents?

You may want to play with View / Wrap to Window and/or Zoom options. If they won't help, you may also want to play with ActiveSync's Options / Rules / Conversion Settings/Desktop to Device/Microsoft Word / Edit. Try switching to the first list item, 'No conversion', from the default 'Pocket Word'.

If none of these tricks help, you may consider installing a full-fledged Pocket Office suite, or, better (and much cheaper!), switch to e.g. uBook or some other e-reader.
