is the Hitachi micro drive reliable compared to a flash card? Anyone use this..its alot cheaper than a CF card, but would it break down?

I don't know about the reliability of current MDs, but they used to be less reliable than flash cards. The other way to think about it is that moving parts are more likely to fail than non-moving parts. Hard drives have moving parts, but flash drives do not...

For what it's worth, I've been using my mine for almost a year now with no problems. I've even dropped it a couple of times (not while in a device though). Overall, I don't have any complaints. One thing to keep in mind though is battery life. If you are going to stream media you want to use an app that supports buffering so that the drive will have a chance to spin down. Pocket Media Player does not do this. For music I use PocketPlayer with a 5-6M buffer, and battery life is just fine.
