I have recently purchased the Oxford Dictionary for PPC, probably an impulsive and mabe not a great purchase and have Encarta Pocket Dictionary on a Dell X5. When I attempt to do a "Lookup Definition" from the cover page of either it opens a window at the top of my screen where I enter a word. Then when I tap "Lookup Definition" in the same window nothing happens? There is a way to lookup words on these dictionaries without either highlighting a word in a text or manually paging to it isn't there???

I've tested MS's own, free Pocket Encarta dictinary ( http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/dictionaries.asp ) on both my 2210 (ver. 2.2.3 / build 3205) and the current, downloadable version (2.3) on my PL720.
The former worked OK - I haven't run into problems you described.
The latter, however, didn't even respond to clicking "Lookup Definition" on the main page and was very-very slow once it got into the text (after some 4-5 minutes - on the 2210, it was pretty instanteous).
So, I think it's a generic problem with version 2.3. Did you install the latest version in your RAM? Try removing it, and using an older (e.g., the built-in) version.
If that doesn't help, consider moving to a better reader. Tome Reader and Mobipocket are both far better at tasks like handling dictionaries.

I don't think it's a generic problem with v2.3 per se. I have v2.3 running fine and the dictionary works well.

In short, after you type in the word, it's not meant to do anything when you tap on "Lookup Definition". You need to tap Enter for it to start searching. ;)

Yeah, you're right. Just installed 2.3 on my 2210 and it works flawlessly. Unlike on my PL720 (main memory install)... strange.

Thanks for the quick responses. I do have Tome Raider but these dictionaries are in MS Reader format. :(

That would be too easy except I don't see Enter on the screen. :?

What on-screen keyboard are you using? The standard one does have one.

It depends on your IME. Are you using the on-screen keyboard? That has an Enter key.
Edit: Another simultaneous post - scary. 8O

Thanks! As usual the answer is sooo easy once you know it! I don't remember which keyboard but I think it is the OEM but slightly modified so that the Enter key is on the"123" keyboard. I've been meaning to try a different keyboard that I have on one of my computers just been a bit too lazy/busy to get around to it.
Thanks again!

... free Pocket Encarta dictinary ...
Is that a book that shows you the proper spelling of words?? :-)
