I just bought an i-mate JAM, and it should be coming in the mail in a couple days. It's also my first PPC Phone Edition. I would like to know a few things... first of all, what programs are must-haves for PPC Phone Edition? For example, phone books, messaging programs, etc. Second, AOL Instant Messenger is gonna be a big part of this device for me. With AOL's PPC version of it, does it always stay online even when the phone is off if I have a GPRS internet plan? Also, is there a way to make it vibrate when I get a new message on AIM instead of just playing the sound? I know there are other programs that handle AIM, but I'm just interested in AOL's version... unless of course, the other programs can do more and look better.

I'd really appreciate anybody's input.. thanks!

The one I can think of as must have Phone-Edition software is spb GPRS Monitor. Good way to keep up with your GPRS cost and use.

Since I love IRC, PocketCHAT is also a must for me, but it's not directly related to Phone Edition as you can use it on WLAN also... when will PPCT get an #IRC channel?

.mobile Contacts Phone Edition is also pretty cool, but I can't say it's a must have, it's not THAT good if you know what I mean

I agree with TopDog about spb GPRS Monitor being a must have and with
that said, I'll add TodayPhone Pro and Pic&Ring to the list.

TodayPhone Pro
http://www.funnysnake.com/products_todayphonepro.php

FunnySnake TodayPhone Pro is a great Today screen plug-in with a useful statistical funtions every Pocket PC Phone Edition user needs. The plug-in allows you to easily see a number of unanswered phone calls directly on a Today screen, view a list of missed, incoming and outgoing calls, and answer any phone call easily.

Pic&Ring

This application enables you to personalize the incoming call ring-tone and picture according to different callers.

As far as AIM goes I have a iPAQ 6315 and it comes with a built-in version
and it only plays sound not sure about the stand-alone version.
