MS Reader>Settings on my PPC confirms I have 2.2.2 build 3143. Yet I've just been told that this is not the latest; there is a 2.3. But when I go to the MS Reader site at http://www.microsoft.com/readerand I get the message "You have the latest version of Microsoft Reader." So how do I get 2.3?!

Another confusion is that the message above continues: "You do not need to download a new version. However, you will need to activate (or reactivate) your device to ensure that you can purchase and read digitally secured Microsoft Reader eBook titles." Yet I already have reactivated, and can already read all my LIT books. And on the Settings page, I see "Activated for [my email.username]".

Is this MS site really as unreliable as this seems to imply?

It's, actually, very old. Even the iPAQ 2210 1.10 ROM upgrade has 2.2.3 / 3205.

Simple: use a simple browser to go there - you won't run into misleading stuff like the above.

So how do I get 2.3?!

http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/ppc.asp DOES have the latest (2.3) version. Simply download it from there (the exact link is http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/9/20997F86-3376-49CC-BD94-6A0521220E9C/MSReaderPPCUSASetup.exe ), install it (preferably in RAM) and everything is OK.

Thanks for that fast reply. I reckon my brain must have been more addled than usual earlier this morning. A few minutes lafter posting I discovered my mistake. I'd gone to the MS Reader page I'd been given elsewhere, but didn't look carefully enough to see that it was covering only the PC version!

So in my impatience I unnecessarily reinstalled the desktop PC version! One puzzling side consequence is that MS Reader on my PC appears to have lost my Library! It contains only the ebook 'MS Reader Help'. So far I can't see how to get my LIT ebooks included, as was the case before?

On the original objective, I did then quickly find the correct PPC page and happy to report that I've now succcessfully installed 2.3 (build 4182).

BTW, from your side comment about the WM2003 latest version, maybe I could have saved myself some storage by sticking with that? I recently upgraded my ROM, so presumably I would already have had 2.3, even thogh I was unaware of it and still running my RAM-based 2.2?
(That is, assuming the more recent 'build' I've just installed doesn't have any major benefits.)

2.3 doesn't have much new functionality, except for the dedicated image mode, similar to that of Mobipocket. So, if you don't want to read tech docs/files with really large pictures etc. on your PDA (most pre-made LIT files won't have hi-res pictures, only if you make them by hand), it's pretty pointless to use it because AFAIK there're no other real enhancements in it. The 1.10 version of the iPAQ 2210 ROM already has a decent version, and it doesn't take up RAM.
