View Full Version : I'm a little disappointed with the bluetooth utilities on the e830

The bluetooth utilities are not very intuitive and I can't get the File Explore plugin to work or even show up. (Whatever its suppose to look like).
I'm trying to browse my Audiovox 5600 but the only service that I can find is the dial-up networking. I'm sure there are more.
The utils on my HP2215 were a bit more straight forward.
Anyone have any insight on this? Maybe there are 3rd party bluetooth utilities that I can install?

Don't look at me... Bluetooth on the e830 has been an issue for me too. The only device that I want to connect to is my Pharos GPS unit... and I have yet to find a solution. I also want to one day connect to a BT Keyboard... but from reading the forums... that is not in my immediate future.
I was able to talk to Toshiba Canada... and they did imply that there might be a BT Update in the works... so I am waiting patiently...
What I would like to know... is which BT device does it work for. If you look at the BT Manager it looks well prepared to take on the world... in reality... I have not seen it work with anything yet.

So far the only thing that I have tried is my smartphone. And its great for dial-up networking.
ActiveSync works too.
But simple things like browsing my phone is a bit elusive.
Its just not very intuitive. On my hp2215 I could see all the services of a device then pick the ones that I wanted to add.
The toshiba is not so straight forward. A bluetooth update would be really nice.
I'll wait with you.

I am using the BT-stack version v5.01 on my e800. I heard that the e830 uses version v5.00. You can easily update it if not already done by downloading it from the Toshiba website:
http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/directlink.php?snr=2
You have only to enable the Explorer SnapIn in the Function list and reboot.
That's it. Now you can directly send a file from the file explore via BT.
It seems it is based on the obex profile because only one file can be sent at a time. I prefer the ftp-client, which has a nice user interface for file transfers. It is in the Bluetooth folder. You can send several files at once to several destinations at the same time. I have never seen a similar tool on other pda's. If you intend to send a business card e.g. to the mobile phone then just enter your address book and send it via BT by using the context menu.
