I've got a 4700 and that exact card. Honestly, I've never once used it. I got the USB Host card exclusively for using with a USB keyboard, but I never had any luck with it. It is recognizing that I plug in USB devices, but it always comes up with the prompt "Unidentified USB device" and asks for a device driver when I plug in the USB devices that I own.

If you want to know anything about it, lemme know, I'll see what I can do.

I've got a 4700 and that exact card. Honestly, I've never once used it. I got the USB Host card exclusively for using with a USB keyboard, but I never had any luck with it. Most people are able to use their USB keybard with USB-enabled PDA's / Ratoc CF USB host cards without additional drivers. (See, e.g., http://www.firstloox.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2356 ) I think the problem is related to your keyboard's current requirement: if its current is (way) above 100 mA, then it won't be recognized by the USB driver. Some USB keyboards require even 250 mA current. I know it (a keyboard with 250 mA current at 5V) sounds unbelievable - I haven't measured it myself so I can't really say for sure that IT is the problem.

Unfortunately, your CF card doesn't allow for external power supply, unlike the Twin Paradox / Cypress Semiconductor card ( http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/printview.php?t=21945&start=0 ).

BTW, you could also test the trial version of the Deje driver ( http://www.deje.gmxhome.de/download.html ).

Now, I don't think it could be utilized by current PDA CPU's / hardware. Now, the max. USB transfer speed you can achieve with hi-end PDA's is some 400-500 kbytes/s, which is still considerably lower than the practical max. speed of USB 1.1 (950 kbytes/s). In the future, however, with far faster CPU's and far more advanced PDA hardware, it may be important to produce USB2 host cards. Now, however, their capabilities just coulnd't be used (not even in a 624 MHz machine like the hx4700) because of the CPU/PDA bottleneck.

Im still trying to figure out what VGA PDA to buy here in the states. Since the Loox and Asus do have usb hosting, im quite disappointed that HP doesnt have it, but not necessary...i dont see a purpose in having a usb host port for a portable pocket pc, which is pratically an orgainzer with plus here and there, NOT a full time computer.

yeah, but why dont you just buy a loox and asus?

Well, the warranty for LOOX doesnt apply in the states, and I have to send it to Europe for a fix, which is expensive and timely.

What about the Asus?

Asus customer service is HORRIBLE, it breaks and Ill break, Ill break them! I still didnt get an email back concerning turnaround questions, its been 2 days, and also I had to wait for 10 minutes on the phone, waiting then get transfered to an answering machine, whom the tech guy never calls me back. BTW, customer service is being transferred to Tawainese reps...according to the message accents...

That CF card usb hosting was a question, but honeslty...not a requirement, I didnt think it would work and perhaps I will not even use it.

man..not much choices for US pda goers, NO cam, NO Ram, NO USB hosting! OH MY!!!! DELL and HP, thats all we get?

I have a 4705 and the RATOC USB 1.1 Host card. I use it to connect with USB hard drives, thumb drives, and the like. It has worked very well and I have had no problems with it. I can listen to mp3s, access large pdf files and even backup to the USB storage using the iPAQ Backup utility. It sees it as just another type of storage media.

I did plug a USB mouse into the card and was not able to use it. I did load the HID profile prior to connecting the mouse. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I don't have a need for the keyboard or mouse that often, so I haven't chased down that issue.

I was mainly after USB Hard Drive access. Which I can now do.
