I need some help. Am trying to buy my first PDA. Have decided on Pocket PC. I need Wifi and Bluetooth. Phone and camera not wanted. Primarily for Contacts and Calendar, but am warned that it will become indispensible!! I like the look of the Screen on the Ipaq 4700 and the speed, but it is way too big, so leaning toward the Dell. However I like the size and look of the Ipaq 2410 and 2710. Anyone have any comments on these 3 please, or anything else you feel I should look at? Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Welcome. I have recently purchased an HP Ipaq 4150. Top machine which has been voted pda of the year in the UK for 2004. A tried and tested bit of kit.

If you don't need VGA you can't do better than the 4150 (IMO and based on your needs). It has probably received more "Best PDA" descriptions than any other PPC.

Thanks, both of you. The 4150 was not one I had thought of, as I had UNDERSTOOD that the 2410 and 2710 had superceeded it. Maybe I should have another look.

Which Dell were you thinking of? There are the three variants of the X30, and the three variants of the X50, the higher-end one being the VGA competitor of the iPAQ hx4700. Also, I wouldn't entirely consider the hx2000 series to be h4150 replacements. The h4150, while older is still a worthy unit to consider and a lot cheaper than a lot of the newer iPAQs. If you're after Wi-Fi and BT, most of these will suit you well, but the question is whether you need a VGA screen. The X50v and hx4700 have VGA screens, while the rest of the previously-mentioned units do not.

I was looking of the Dell X50V which of course has the VGA screen. More and more, I'm thinking that, though a great screen, I feel that it is the wrong reason to buy the Dell. It seems to me that the Ipaq, overall maybe a better "machine". The 2710 is faster, better storage, and though I know it should not really matter, is cosmetically, a nicer looking beast. Whether I would ever use the biometrics, God only knows, but I don't!!
I guess with your help, I'm convincing myself !!!! Must apologise. Model # is Ipaq 2750 not 2710.

The 4705 is a beautiful machine and it works well. The only reservation is the fact that HP did not provide 128 Mb of Ram as my HP 5555 had.

I love the VGA and the dual media slots.
