UltraMote universal remote software version 3.0 also has been enhanced to support an even broader range of brands and models of televisions, stereos, cable boxes and other devices. Users can customize the Axim and other supported models to surf channels, control DVD players and audio components, change lighting or control other tasks in the home theater. UltraMote version 3.0 software can be used with the Axim’s integrated infrared capability, or the optional, patent-pending UltraMote Extender card can be added to boost range up to 50 feet. The UltraMote solution supports 18 other Pocket PC models including other selected Audiovox, Dell, HP, Siemens, and Toshiba models."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20050107-UltraMotev3.jpg" /><br /><br />UltraMote 3.0 now has full support for the Dell Axim X50, and with the UltraMote Extender card, you can boost the range of the infrared signal by up to fifty feet. It works via a CompactFlash interface. Existing users of UltraMote can upgrade to the new version for free. Otherwise, the software costs $15, and the software/extender card package costs $35. A trial version of the software is also available.

Been watching solutions to this need bounce around for some time but feel they are still missing an ideal solution... this one, unfortunately, is included.

How about an approach such as this...

A standalone wifi or network device that issues ir emissions when it receives them addressed to it's ip address.

A PPC compatible local web page that responds to taps by issuing these commands to the network ir device when page buttons are tapped.

It should be currently possible to program existing usb devices such as ir dongles or the windows media edition ir module to do this if a pc is available to drive the ir emitter.

I tried Vito Remote but wasn't impressed with it. I should try this on my iPaq 5550.

I'm currently sold on SD for storage due to it's small size but UltraMote has me thinking twice about a two slot device in the future, especially if that device doesn't have CIR.

BTW, what the heck is the IR range of a Dell Axim X50v????
Is it as good as my old IPAQ 2210 30ft range?
Has anyone already tested it?

IIRC, factory specifications are FIR, so it's similar to what your h2210 would deliver. I haven't done any physical testing before, so don't expect it to be exactly the same in a real-world scenario.
