Is this the screen with the "My Info" logo at the top, or the screen where you can change your user information details?

Thanks for the quick reply darius. Yes the screen does have 'my info' in large letters displayed. Can I stop it appearing?
Also did you know that PDA Essentials in the UK vited the HP Ipaq 4150 as their best PDA of 2004 ??

Okay, go to Start > Settings > Owner Information, and untick the "Show information when device is turned on" box. However, this will also remove this informative screen when you turn on the device from standby mode. So, could you please give me a few more details on the problem? Does this screen appear while your Pocket PC is on, or does it automatically switch on from standby and display this screen every few hours?

I'm not surprised. It's one of the best devices out there, IMO. ;)

Okay, then in that case, leave the box checked. So in fact, the problem is not an owner information screen appearing at set intervals, but rather your Pocket PC coming out of standby mode without you expecting it to.
Do you have your Wi-Fi or Bluetooth running in the background, or do you have any programs (today plug-ins included) that are configured to update itself from the internet every few hours? A common culprit is Journal Bar.

I know wifi and bluetooth are not running but I know I have the likes of calendar and inbox running when I turn the machine off.
It is actually the owner info screen that is being displayed every few hours. I seem to remember the machine asking me something to do with this when I got it.
thanks

When you got your machine, you were asked to enter your user information data. If you wanted to, you could check the box to have it displayed when you turn on your device. The probable reason behind your owner information screen appearing every few hours is because your device has been configured to display it when it comes out of standby - willingly or in this case, probably unwillingly. Have you set your device to automatically check for messages? Or do you have a weather program running? An RSS reader wanting to grab updated feeds every so often? Perhaps you could try switching off your device without any active programs running (Calendar and Inbox, included) and see if the problem still exists.

Hi Darius,
I have tried what you mentioned but no joy. How do I check if I have set the device to check for messages/updated every so often?
Also when I do a restore from my sd to the ipaq for say a single file all that happens is that the folder is restored but without the relevant file.....do you know why this is?
thanks for your time

Can you please give me a list of the programs you have installed? You can get this from the "Remove Programs" applet in Settings.

What file are you trying to restore?

I seem to be reading this question differently.
Is the device turning on on its own and displaying the owner info or when you turn it on.
Also does it happen if you turn it off and back on within a few minutes?
If you go into start, settings, owner information is the check box checked, unchecking that should stop the owner info coming up when you turn it on.

I think we went through that part already. dibbs26 intends to keep the owner info screen, but the problem is that the device is coming out of standby on its own... At least I think so anyway.
Is this problem occurring while it is in the cradle, or off the cradle as well?

Darius you are spot on. The ipaq is coming out of standby both in cradle and out of cradle displaying the owner info screen every few hours.

Okay, this is now a shot in the dark. It doesn't appear as though you have any programs installed that are causing it - well, not from what you have listed anyway. Try removing your SD card, and leaving your device in standby mode, and see if the problem occurs.

Do you have any alarms set? You can check this by tapping on the date on the today screen, and tapping on the Alarms tab. Alternatively, you may have recurring appointments with reminders set to go off at certain times. Check for those in the Calendar application. :)

Can you do me a favour? Download MemMaid and install it. Then click the second tab, and select Find Duplicate, and see if any duplicate notifications appear. If so, delete them, and then see if this "automatic turn-on" problem still exists.

You'd need to see which of your appointments are recurring (i.e. appear more than once) - it's really a manual run. It's easier to work off Outlook on your PC if you keep your appointments synchronised.

Downloaded memmaid and it didnt find any duplicates. The machine is still doing the same. I have emailed hp and they advised going into sounds and notifications then selecting reminders. I have done that and deselected everything but to no avail.
Do I now have to send the machine back to hp?
cheers

Nope, but it's really odd that none of the software is doing this. Considered a hard reset?

Are these the full versions or trial versions? If they are the full versions which you purchased over Handango or the like, you can simply redownload it with your valid order number and use the serial number (if relevant) to register the application. If they are trial versions, simply head over to the company's website, download them, and install them just like you would any other program. :)

Been following this and it seems like you might want to check the iPAQ Backup program. Goto Programs > iPAQ Backup > Options > Battery Monitoring. Make sure Enable Battery Monitoring is unchecked. This part of the program monitors the battery but can only do it if the PPC is on so it turns it on every so often. Hope this helps.
