You have two options for enabling (non-MIDP) Java Applets on your Pocket PC:

- the JEODE PIE plug-in. A bit bulkier than Netfront 3.1

- Netfront 3.1 with the Java plug-in.

The latter, because of the integration of the Java engine into the browser is clearly better in situations like those that require more screen estate than QVGA. (The PIE plugin being a plug-in, doesn't allow for larger applet areas than the QVGA size).

As for compatibility, I've tested both Java engines with several applets. Unfortunately, both failed at running alot of them (even ones that the other engine ran OK). So, if you want maximal compatibility, install both engines. I strongly suspect that they won't run any current (read: JDK1.4/1.5) multimedia applets, though.

If the applet still runs, don't expect much speed-wise; particularly not in multimedia applications like multimedia video streaming.

You may have meant MIDP's. I've just posted a MIDP-on-PPC tutorial in the PPCT forums some days ago; use the forum search to find it (I can't do it now because I'm writing from a PDA and searching doesn't work). Look for 'MIDP', 'IBM', 'games', 'Nokia'.

Searching with the Search button up there for MIDP IBM games Nokia, all words, came up with this link (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36013&highlight=midp+ibm+games+nokia).
