I've used NoteM since it was released on a PPC 2002 unit. I've graduated to a new iPAQ 2215 WM2003 but the WM2003 version of NoteM silences the speaker after listening to any voice recording. It'll play another but mutes the speaker after each and leaves it muted on exit of NoteM. If I want to hear the next appointment alarm, I must manually set the speaker to its previous volume.
This is unsupported freeware so any answer is only likely to come here. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, set and changed all options and see no change in the problem.
