View Full Version : Download images from My Pictures folder on desktop -- will formatting work?

Hi
What I am really trying to ask here is if I use any kind of image editing software on the desktop to adjust color, contrast, etc. and then download the image to my PPC (Axim X5) will it be exactly the same?? In other words would something similar to what happens to a text document word also apply to images where everything you did with the desktop will be lost in the download?? For example, I understand that if I did a lot of formatting to a word document on the desktop such as bold, italics, underlining, bullets, etc. then none of that will be in effect when it opens using pocket word? If I have made this a little too wordy or hard to understand just tell me and I will try to make it more clear as to what I am asking.
Thanks everyone.

This has been raised on another forum thread covering screen colouring. The problem arises because you cannot calibrate a PPC screen and even if you could, none of the software accepts ICC profiles. It should be close enough to not notice unless you are doing colour critical work, and if you are, why are you using a PPC ;)

To say it a little different, no, none of your changes or additions will be lost in the transfer. The ability of the PPC and the picture programs to accurately display the photos may leave something to be desired.

I can't add much else on top of what Sven and Gareth have already mentioned, but unless you have some sort of ActiveSync filter (although, rare) designed to modify the pictures when you transfer it from PC to PPC, you won't lose any of the "edited" features. But once again, it may appear different on a PPC screen as opposed to a PC screen.

Why dont you wonna edit your pictures on your pocket so they are just like you want them, SPB imageer and Resco Picture viewer are great for that

If I am not mistaken, what this guy is looking for is a way to use his axim easily as a digital photo wallet. He WANTS software that will automatically adjust the contrast, size etc when he copies them over to his device.
I could use the same if any developer is interested.

I appreciate everyone's feedback.
This is my favorite PPC site due to the helpful and friendly members of these forums.
It is correct that I basically want a PPC version of keeping photos of family and friends in your wallet. I mainly use the Axim X5 for scheduling, contacts, tasks, and budget tracking, but would also like to download some of my favorite images from my Desktop hard drive.
Have a great week everyone.

Spb Imageer, Resco Pic Viewer, PDAMill Viewer etc. - there're quite a few of Digital Image Wallet programs. Check out http://menneisyys.freeweb.hu/PICVIEWERS - my next article (still in an early alpha stage, biut already contains a lot of info) discusses exactly these programs.
