It's not a mystery that based on specs alone, the BenQ P50 Phone Edition has everything I would like to see in a Pocket PC. We've been hearing about this device for quite some time now. A little while we reported on a preview on Mobile01.com, that showed an actually working engineering sample. Soo Goh was nice enough to provide us with a link to a very good English translation of that preview. And several people have reported in that Expansys, the King of Pre-Order Sales, have the BenQ P50 listed and priced in their sales list. Expansys does have a habit to have every unit discussed somewhere on this planet on their pre-order list, even if there's no actual clue if and when this unit will actually be released, so don't get your hopes up too high. All I know is that what I wanted for X-Mas, I won't get this year. May be next year?

Anyone has any idea if the Expansys pre-order price is any accurate?

It's either this or the MPx with 64mb, but I'd really prefer this if both were at the same price.

As long as it has more than 32 Mb Ram :(

Yes, I've been lusting after the BenQ phone as well. I wonder how long until it actually makes it to the North American shores?

I am also lusting after the Samsung i730 PocketPC Phone that Engadget talked about recently: http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000940024736/

Both of these have integrated keyboard, small form factor, at least 64 MB RAM, and most the other goodies I want. The Samsung seems to be stealing the keyboard slider design from the PDA2K. Still no VGA, but for that will have to be a trade off for the size of these things.

Great to see some more innovative PPCPE devices making their way towards the market. MPx? What's that? :?

From what I gather the MPx will debut with 32MB so that leaves us to wonder if BenQ will come through for us with at least 64MB...

I was going to wait for the BenQ but decided to go with the new i-mate JAM for now. Should be here any day now from Expansys.

I was going to wait for the BenQ but decided to go with the new i-mate JAM for now. Should be here any day now from Expansys.

I got the Jam on Monday.
Have't put it down yet.

I've read rumours of the 'ultimate device' (MPX and P50) for months. They STILL haven't appeared.
The Jam isn't perfect, but it' here now and is at a great price.

The Treo 650 has little memory, only 0.3 MPs and is delayed here in the UK.
The P910i has too little software available, only 0.3MPs and the alarms don't sound if switched off.
The XDA II and III are too big and have only a lo-res camera.

This only really leaves the Jam for a pocketable, hi-res camera smartphone that is available and sensibly priced.

Cheers.

I think they are using the following excel formula to determine the preorder price :

=200+100*RAND()

or in D&D formula :

200+100d1

:) Happy New Year, Everyone ! :)
