Hello,
I recently bought a HP rx3715 and upon getting it up and running I was playing around with the Ipaq Mobile Media. I installed the NevoMedia Server and was able to connect and see all my Media. However I could not play any MP3's over the network. Once I checked the help file I saw that it could only play WMA over the Network? Is this true? Are there no hacks around this at all? I would never convert all my MP3's to WMA files......

Yeah, the 3715 manual ( http://www.mynevo.com/Mynevo/Manuals/MobileMedia/MobileMedia-en/Mobile%20Media%20Companion.pdf ) also states this on page 6-10:

"Music – .wma (Windows Media Audio) and .mp3 (all modes
except in the Media Stream mode)
Streaming of .mp3 music files from personal computers on
your network to play on your HP iPAQ is not supported."

A solution to this is accessing the desktop file system through simple directory sharing over Wi-Fi, and playing your MP3's with the built-in Pocket Windows Media Player (PWMP). It's very important you use PWMP because, for example, BetaPlayer and some other MP3 players don't support MP3 streaming, "just" video streaming. That is, they first download the MP3's to the local PDA, and only after this start playing, resulting in a lot more hassle and prolly manual cleanup work.

Doing this is much easier than you may think:

- share your desktop MP3 directory
- with, for example, Resco File Explorer, go straight to the shared directory
- tap the file

You can also access shared MP3's from play list, if you refer to the shared MP3's from the ASX playlist as follows:

<ASX version = "3.0">
<ENTRY>
<ref href = "\\<machine name>\<dir name>\<name of the mp3>" />
</ENTRY>
<ENTRY>
<ref href = "\\<machine name>\<dir name>\<name of another mp3>" />
</ENTRY>
</ASX>

BTW, I've written a lot about multimedia (A/V) streaming to Pocket PC's, especially over Wi-Fi/BT PAN networks, in my, unfortunately, non-English (you've been warned ;) ) articles at http://menneisyys.freeweb.hu/streaming and http://menneisyys.freeweb.hu/PAN .

Feel free to ask if you need more info.

Thanks. Now I just have to get my PocketPC added to my home network. Hell my Laptops are still working on that.
