I have a friend who wants to "upgrade" his PDA. Currently, he has what I have, a Jornada 568. He kind of likes the size of the 1945's, but I wasn't sure what was still on the market in the $200-250 price range. I'd like to get a Wi-Fi device for him, bluetooth is not necessary, and he doesn't need a specific kind of memory slot.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

You'll find that most devices that have integrated Wi-Fi will have integrated BT as well. :) The size of the h1945 is great, but it does lack Wi-Fi. This brings forth another device: the h4150. It has much the same form factor as the h1945, and has both Wi-Fi and BT. It may not have WM2003SE as the OS, but it's still a great device nonetheless. It also has an SD slot, much like the h1945, and SD media is quite cheap these days, and there are also a host of SDIO add-ons to enhance the available options. You'll find great deals at Pricegrabber or eBay.

Thanks, Darius. The 4150 would be a great choice, if only I could find it for him in that 200-250 range. That might be a real challenge. Thanks!

This one has 2 days to go, but you may find it quickly soars out of the 200-250 range (right now it is at 211)

Good luck finding your friend the perfect PDA!

I just had an idea! What if you were to go with a device that didn't have WiFi and then add it on yourself? This may keep it in the range (you can get brand new 2215 for 300, imagine what a used would be, plus with a WiFi CF card - you are set!

You can sometimes get the Dell Axim X30 midrange unit for around $230 during their sales. It's a hell of a machine. You could also look at their outlet store for refurbished units--they're as good as new, and even cheaper.

i will suggest you dell x30 mid level because the device is in your price range, have plently of internal storage. not the best unit out there, but for the money you got you should consider this unit

The X30 is certainly a good buy as well, but bear in mind that the form factor of the h1940/h4150 and the X30 are different, so your friend will probably want to have a look at the latter first before deciding to purchase it. Some people find the X30 comfortable to hold, while some don't.

This is what I thought after looking at the Dell machines online. I think he'd really prefer the rounded-bottom form factor of a 1940ish type machine, and the X50 is a little pricy at the moment. Thanks!
