That's actually not bad for USB 1.1; but to answer your question, no. There's no way to make the connection speed any faster... at least not a way that I know of.

pardon me
not 5mb .. wayy less

3.4 - 4.2 MB

will USB 1.1 card reader be faster?

Transferring over a USB1.1 connection is never speedy. If you're planning to transfer files to a memory card, a card reader is great for that and I highly recommend it. Although, you'll hardly find USB1.1 card readers now. They're all sold in USB2.0 versions, which is a lot faster (480Mbps as opposed to 11Mbps). It's backward compatible with USB1.1 in case your computer lacks a USB2.0 port. Anyway, I think the small amount of money you spend to acquire a card reader is well worth it and it'll pay off in no time. ;)

MUCH faster. "Old" USB1.1 readers generally transfer stuff at 300-400 kbytes/s; "new" USB2 readers in a USB1.1 port at 800-900 kbytes/s and in a real USB2 port, at 2-8 Mbytes/s, dependng on the card.

Normal? Yes.
Right? No.

ActiveSync speed sucks because it uses the USB in serial port emulation to communicate with the big PC (max 115,200bps) and it uses the PPP protocol on top of that. So where USB1.1 gets around 1mBps, ActiveSync is 10x slower.

I've given up using ActiveSTINK for file transfer. I use either
- a 512MB CF with a USB reader on the PC
- WiFi + BizzDev NET USE and copy files from a Network Share on the PC
- ActiveSync via WiFi

It helps to have a Wifi card on the Pocket PC and a Wireless Router on the home LAN ;)

The maximal theoretical speed of USB 1.1 is 11 Mbps (in practice, some 800 kbytes/s); the practical maximal speed of ActiveSync is around 1 Mbps on devices designed after 2002; on devices produced before that, about 300-500 kbps.

But isn't activestink required to convert some types of files? I know that when I transfer some movie files by my card reader, they won't play, but when I transfer them by activesync, I presume they get "converted" and are therefore made playable by my ppc.

I could just be having problems with my card reader, though. Sometimes when I put a card in my card reader, it looks corrupted on my PPC. Cardmechanic will, however, show there are no errors on the card, and the card will read just fine on my PPC.

It MAY convert some documents; most large files (ZIP's, MP3's etc) are, however, left untouched.
