<a href="http://www.mtekk.com.au/browse/page1030.html">http://www.mtekk.com.au/browse/page1030.html</a><br /><br /><i>"Mike explorers Resco Explorer and learns yet more of what MS forgot to include in Windows Mobile 2003."</i><br /><br />This review gives a pretty good overview of what Resco File Explorer 2003 can do. I've had it a few years and it is always one of the <a href="http://www.ehansberry.com/pages/pocketpc.html">first things I install</a> on a new or freshly reset Pocket PC.<br /><br />It is more than just a File Explorer replacement. It supports file encryption, compressed (zip) files, FTP sites, shared network folders and has a built in registry editor, multiple views, customizable Favorites so you can quickly jump around frequently used folders and much more. As the reviewer does, I highly recommend it. You can buy it for $24.95 at the <a href="http://www.handango.com/brainstore/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&productId=11118">Pocket PC Thoughts store</a>. <i>(Affiliate link)</i>

Resco is a great program, but I wouldn't give it a perfect 10 out of 10 like Mike did. For a more detailed review (very detailed -- dial-up users beware), check out my review (http://review.svpocketpc.com/rescoexplorer5/RescoExplorer5.html).
Don't let the extensive list of minor problems and suggestions for improvement fool you, though; the list is long because the program does so much. The program is definitely a 9 out of 10.

Interesting. I've never seen someone spell the word manual "R*E*V*I*E*W"

I can see how someone may thing that $25 is too much...but I urge anyone to try the trial before jumping to that conclution.
I tried it for only a week before plopping down my money.

Personally, I'd recommend Advanced Explorer (http://www.handango.com/ampp/store/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&jid=5267B39A79C84CB1CD8C8CX79XE58B4F&platformId=2&productType=2&productId=62596&sectionId=0&catalog=30&topSectionId=-1). For about 1/6 the price of Resco Explorer, you get all the same features most users actually use and the icons are more attractive as well. Plus it has a Recycle Bin that Resco dosen't have.

It looks a lot like GSFinder+ (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34371), which is free. :)

Perhaps there are less expensive options available (I've never tried any of them), but based upon popularity alone, when I bought my first PPC nearly two years ago, I almost immediately saw the deficiencies of the built-in file explorer that came with the OS, and so I bought Resco's Explorer.
In short: it's a great solution, a great piece of reliable software. My liking of this program shot up when I installed a wireless network in my home this summer, and Pat gave me tips to configure my new X50v using Resco's Explorer so I could browse virtually all files and folders on all my network PCs. Maybe all similar programs can do that, too, but Resco makes the whole process very simple, very easy to use.
Like Ed, it's one of the very first things I would install on a new (or newly reset) PPC. Strong 'Buy' recommendation!

I use Resco on my iPAQs and my smartphones as well. I highly recommend it.

One thing that Resco Explorer is missing is drag & drop file movement. I sure would like to have that feature!

Resco Explorer does support drag-and-drop. Are you running an older version of the software?

I don't see drag-and-drop in the copy that came with my Ipaq 5555, which is this version:
RESCO Explorer 2003 v4.11

Aha! I'm not surprised. I actually would have been surprised if the version that was included for free with the 5555 did NOT have some features held back in order to spur sales of newer versions. That is usually what happens with "free" bundled software.
Thanks for clearing that up.

No problems. I believe before v5 bloomed into the market, the v4 updates could be applied for free on iPAQs which came pre-packaged with v4.xx of Resco Explorer. However, now that v5.xx has lingered around for a while, it may be hard laying your hands on a v4.xx update, so your only option would be to purchase an upgrade to v5 or look for another solution.

Thanks! I have not kept up with the new releases of that product (I didn't know that there were any!). I have sent them a support request asking whether the updates can still be had. I hope so.
Thanks again,
Tim

Here's the (very prompt) (and very reasonable) reply that I received from Resco -
Hello,
there are no free upgrades for OEM versions.
But if you like to order update, you may use our Christmas action 30% discount (if ordering from now till 31st December) http://www.resco-net.com/explorer.asp

I just purchased the Utility Pack (which is also available with that same 30% discount) and am satisfied with the transaction.
Thanks,
Tim
