View Full Version : Is Is Toshiba's Voice Command software the same as Microsoft's Voice Command?

I was wondering if it was one of those deals like MS Transcriber and Phatware Calligrapher.

You know where Microsoft has a copyright on the name, but allowed someone else to write the software, then took a snapshop of it and renamed it. 8O

Bot VCs do seem to be slightly different.

Any thoughts?

Toshiba's voice-recognition apps have been around for a while. Both Toshiba's and Microsoft's offerings are very different, but I tend to prefer the latter (even though I'm comparing apples and oranges here). You can always download a trial version of Microsoft Voice Command to see what I'm talking about.

Like he said ^^

Different apps.

I haven't used the microsoft one, but the toshiba one seems to be quite limited in what you can do with it.

I hardly ever use it.

I didn't think there was a trial version. If I am wrong, where can I download it?

Glad you like it. Browsing on a mobile device always has that element of *cool* to it. :P

Yes, it runs fine. In the event that Toshiba releases a WMP10 Mobile update, expect some incompatibilities in the media function of Voice Command. However, an update of Voice Command will probably be released which rectifies these issues.

Is anyone actually using Microsoft's Voice Command on their Toshiba e830?

Or e800/805 for that matter?

When I try to start it I only get a dull tone and there is no response to my voice. I hear it say its ready when I installed and when I soft reset but thats it.

Also, it doesn't show up in my Programms Menu. Althought its in the Settings menu.

It's not meant to appear in the Programs menu. The applet in the Settings allows you to configure the options. If you open the Buttons applet in Settings, you have to link Voice Command to a button in order to use it properly. Next open your Audio settings and set it to medium level. Now if you press the button Voice Command was linked to, and say something, e.g. "Start Calculator", it should work.

Okay, so my problem may have been User Error.

In the Toshiba VC you have to hold the button down to initiate.

But in MS VC you apparently just press then let it go.
Its working now.

Yes. Holding it down actually initiates a "cancel" function in VC. Good to see you got it sorted now. :D
